Plastics sub-assemblies oust metals
A new pneumatic suspension that features replacing metal by plastics subassemblies relied on the optimisation of different injection moulding techniques.
Quadrant Creative Moulding and Systems - the former ERTA CMS - has developed the new "Airmatic DC" pneumatic suspension for the new Mercedes E Class in close cooperation with Vibracoustic Hamburg GmbH Quadrant developed the solution for the central rear axle piston, one of the key components of the pneumatic suspension on the basis of the Vibracoustic concept for replacing metal by plastics subassemblies

Quadrant CMS taps into beverage market
A multi-part beer-tap system, injection-molded by Quadrant CMS from polypropylene, is a critical, consumer-interfacing component on the new 5-litre, single-use Draught Keg from Heineken Beer Systems.
The two technical problems that had to be solved were the reliable connection of the two separate components of the piston and the air tightness at extreme temperatures.
During the development the combination of Virbracoustics' technical expertise, especially in the field of pneumatic suspension systems using metal pistons, and the know-how of Quadrant in the different injection moulding techniques and their potential for optimization as well as in the mechanical properties of high-performance plastics proved to be a recipe for success.
Quadrant developed an approach which satisfied the high standards of mechanical load-bearing capacity required at a very attractive price / performance ratio and was therefore awarded the contract.
Extreme high-performance engineering plastics offer significant advantages compared with metals for many applications, such as lower weight, greater freedom of design, shorter manufacturing times and chemical resistance.
Quadrant CMS focuses further on its product line of air suspension systems together with major 1st tier suppliers to the automotive industry.
Thanks to the new pneumatic suspension co-developed by Quadrant, drivers and passengers can now benefit from greater comfort and safety offered by the new Mercedes E 500 Class.
