Microcontrollers perform high level programming

A Rapid Electronics product story
Edited by the Manufacturingtalk editorial team Feb 15, 2006

For industrial automation and other uses, a microcontroller, with Flash memory, is based on an industry-standard 8 bit architecture enhanced for high level programming and interrupt support.

The ST7Flite and STR7 range represent a great step forward in ST's presence on the microcontrollers market.

Rapid is pleased to present the ST7 and STR7 ranges to our customers.

The ST7 core is based on an industry-standard 8-bit architecture enhanced by STMicroelectronics for high level programming and interrupt support.

All devices feature Flash memory and have integrated support features such as low voltage detector, read-out protection, low power modes and built-in EMC features.

Within the ST7 family sits the ST7Lite range, low-cost, general purpose and flexible.

All devices use the same single-voltage Flash technology and are programmed using the same techniques and tools.

They also share a common emulator and software development platform.

The STR7 range offers the power and flexibility of a 32-bit microcontroller and is based on the leading ARM7TDMI 32-bit RISC core.

Utilising ST's latest 0.18u (mu) embedded Flash technology, the range is designed for high performance, very low power consumption, and very dense code operations.

The STR710 range offers a comprehensive set of peripherals including USB and CAN, 4 x 12-bit A/D inputs and all are available in a choice of memory densities.

This family targets embedded control applications such as industrial control, factory automation, point-of-sale, medical and testing equipment, as well as telecom and consumer applications.

Rapid is delighted to offer a range of starter kits for the ST7Flite family from Raisonance, which provides everything the developer needs to rapidly create, build and debug applications including the in-circuit programmer, evaluation board and full software tool chain.

For the STR7 we have a choice of cost-effective development boards also offering a complete hardware and software development platform.

The Columbus board is available in a choice of two versions, with different models of the microcontroller onboard.

The USB version incorporates the STR711FR2T6, while the CAN version contains the STR712FR2Y6.

Both boards contain Flash memory, RAM and serial EEPROM, multiple I/O ports and multiple input voltages.

There is a range of serial interfaces and detachable JTAG wiggler for in-circuit debugging.

The hardware platform has full software support including the GNU compiler.

With the development engineer in mind, we are supplying the STR7 series singly for testing.

For larger runs we supply packs of ten in packages which are sealed against moisture for infra-red reflow soldering.

We are stocking the most popular memory densities of each family, the rest are available on a short lead time.

Should you prefer one of the smaller densities please call our sales office on 01206 751166 and we can have them at short notice (normally 7-10 days).

All the above products are offered by Rapid along with exceptional customer service, rapid delivery (free of charge for orders over GBP 25), comprehensive range of over 32,000 products, volume pricing, scheduled ordering and technical support.
