Single box solution for Ethernet over SHDSL

A RAD Data Communications product story

ASMi-52L SHDSL modem incorporates 4-port Ethernet switch, eliminating need for external Ethernet device.

RAD Data Communications has introduced its new ASMi-52L SHDSL modem, which extends the range of Ethernet over copper links.

The attractively priced ASMi-52L SHDSL modem is designed for applications that require only a single user port.

The ASMi-52L SHDSL modem operates in full duplex mode, supporting multiple data rates of up to 2.3 Mbps over 2-wire and 4.6 Mbps over 4-wire lines while guaranteeing reliable performance even over poor quality or noisy lines.

The ASMi-52L SHDSL modem is available with four optional 10/100BaseT user ports and an integrated switch that provides sophisticated capabilities, including VLAN priority for improving carrier service provisioning, VLAN management to increase security by separating traffic streams, and fault propagation, enabling users to automatically re-route traffic to an alternative path.

"This integrated switch reduces Capex by eliminating the need to deploy an external switch," explains Meira Erez, last mile product line manager at RAD Data Communications.

"In order to cover longer distances, the modem can also be ordered with an optional PFH-4 power-feeding hub that remotely feeds the S-RPT SHDSL repeater".

"This extends their operational range along distances where no local power is available," Erez adds.

The ASMi-52L SHDSL modem is available as a standalone unit and comes with a variety of user interface options to support, V.35, X.21, Ethernet, and four Ethernet ports with an integrated switch.

These options are compatible with 2/4-wire repeaters, such as RAD's S-RPT SHDSL repeater, for supporting even longer-range applications.

The ASMi-52L SHDSL modem can work opposite RAD's LRS-52 SHDSL modem rack, the LRS-24 modem rack, the DXC series of digital access modes, and SHDSL modules installed in the Megaplex line of modular integrated access multiplexers.

In addition, standards compliance enables the ASMi-52 SHDSL modem to work opposite third-party TDM equipment that supports the SHDSL standard.

The ASMi-52L SHDSL modem provides end-to-end management and supervision.

Automatic configuration from a downloaded file makes for fast and easy plug and play installation.

The ASMi-52L SHDSL modem is managed using SNMP applications, such as RADview, Telnet or an ASCII terminal.

Extensive diagnostics of local and remote units, including loopbacks and SHDSL performance monitoring, are available via a supervisory port.
