PSTN Access over a DSL Infrastructure
Ventelo 'makes history' by using TDM Pseudowire Solution to Replace Expensive Leased Lines.
Ventelo, one of Europe's largest independent providers of telecommunications services, has chosen a TDM pseudowire solution from RAD Data Communications to provide PSTN access over IP DSLAMs As the largest alternative telecom provider to business users in Norway and the second largest alternative telecom provider in Sweden, Ventelo has decided to expand its portfolio of services for enterprise customers by taking advantage of the multiplicity of IP DSLAMs in those countries

To do so, Ventelo opted for a solution comprised of RAD's IPmux-11 TDM-over-IP (TDMoIP) pseudowire access gateways working in tandem with its Gmux-2000 central site TDMoIP pseudowire gateway and its LA-110 Ethernet-over-DSL Integrated Access Devices (IADs).
"Traditionally, alternative carriers transport PSTN traffic over expensive leased lines," explains Mati Epstein, Director of Sales for Scandinavia at RAD Data Communications.
"Ventelo is making telecoms history by offering the same service using TDM pseudowire and IP DSLAMs".
In the Ventelo application, IPmux-11 units are used to encapsulate PBX traffic for transport over a low-cost Ethernet link.
This emulated TDM traffic is then passed over SHDSL links by LA-110 IADs to an IP DSLAM, which concentrates several similar connections, and forwards them across the packet switched network (PSN).
At the other end of the PSN, a Gmux-2000 TDMoIP pseudowire aggregator is used to reconstruct emulated TDM traffic back into TDM signals for transmission over the PSTN.
This solution replaces the need for Ventelo to be running TDM voice over more expensive leased lines.
"We can convert TDM PBX traffic for transport over Ventelo's own high-quality IP network in order to reduce cost, and obtain full end-to end control of the service, while the customer experiences the same high quality and functionality," says Helene Alander, Director of Network Services at Ventelo.
"Ventelo can, through the solution, offer more attractive products to our customers in a very competitive market," she adds.
