Funding won to refurbish moulder and set up IT
Six days' support funding was won for rubber and plastics moulding company to refurbish an injection moulder and establish IT and Web-based strategies.
Rapra Technology, Europe's leading independent polymer specialist, has been working with the Advantage West Midlands (AWM) initiative in raising the competitiveness of client companies in the area.
Client company take-up from the West Midlands plastics sector has been busy since both Advantage West Midlands and the West Midlands Manufacturing Advisory Service (MAS) have been established and have been using the established expertise of Rapra Technology.
The latest success-story concerns Sutton Coldfield-based Rubber and Plastic Profiles.
Following a response from Advantage West Midlands, Rapra Technology visited the company to provide a manufacturing assessment of the company.
Following this work, Rubber and Plastic Profiles won six days support funding from the West Midlands Manufacturing Advisory Service.
Rapra Technology was retained to: * provide technical support, specification and refurbishment for the company's Arburg 250kN injection moulding machine.
* provide consultancy for the company's range of proprietary moulded products in various sports markets.
* establish the company's IT and Web-based strategies.
Client company managing director, Alan Mogg says 'our initial investment in the Advantage West Midlands assessment has proved to be very worthwhile.
The company, founded in 1969, is now firmly placed within the Twenty First Century; and is anticipating orders from throughout the UK and beyond.
In particular, our capacity in plastics injection moulding and low cost tooling has been properly specified.
' Rubber and Plastic Profiles now has a fully functioning that details the capacity and performance of its plastics and rubber moulding machines - as well as the scope of the company's proprietary products and abilities in contract moulding.
As a result of this activity the company has also invested in computer hardware.
A number of new orders are expected as a result of the changes made.
Rapra Technology's plastics consultancy business has seen month-on-month growth over the past six months - primarily in areas of plastics design and manufacturing.
This business is principally with Rapra customers who need to outsource these specialised manufacturing skills.
A leading manufacturer of pumps, for example, now uses the Shawbury based consultancy for all of its critical polymer manufacturing needs; from materials approval and testing to mould and product design to product testing and certification.
OEMs are using the Rapra services to assist their moulding suppliers and leading materials producers are also relying on Shawbury to help develop the performance and predictability of their polymers.
