Brazing alloy rods continually cast to finish size
Two horizontal continuous casting machines supplierd to an Iranian company produce brazing alloy rods directly to finished size, so bypassing the billet casting and hot metal extrusion.
Continuous casting technology specialists, Rautomead International, of Dundee, Scotland, have recently supplied two horizontal continuous casting machines to Noghreh Joosh Sadaf Co.
of Iran, for production of a range of silver-bearing and other brazing alloys.
Significant advances - the larger of the two machines supplied by Rautomead, an RT 400 model, is for casting billet up to 115mm diameter in single or twin strand configuration.
The continuous billet casting process provides a significant advance over the earlier technique of static mould casting, giving much greater consistency of quality and higher process yield.
The continuous cast billet is cut to length to suit the following extrusion process: The smaller machine, a model RM 050, has been configured to cast small diameter rods of as little as 3mm diameter, also in twin strand configuration.
Continuous cast rods are then coiled onto spools, using a pair of rod coilers also supplied by Rautomead.
By casting the brazing alloy rods directly to the finished size required, the intermediate steps of billet casting and hot metal extrusion are neatly by-passed.
