Radan Computational, a principal member of the Planit Solutions group, has strengthened its senior management team with the appointment of Chris Aston as managing director.

Formerly Radan's general manager, Aston draws on more than 17 years' service with the software company in his new position.

Commenting on his appointment, Aston said: "Radan is acknowledged to be the UK's dominant developer and supplier of manufacturing solutions for sheet metalworking applications".

"The company has a strong management team and I believe we are in an excellent position to harness the technical superiority of our products with the financial strength of Planit Holdings to significantly grow our revenues." "The group's well-established international sales and marketing network will enable us to use our market leadership in the UK to win increased business in important overseas territories, such as mainland Europe and North America".

"We also intend to maximise the returns from a series of agreements we have in place with key OEM machine tool builders; as well as take advantage of cross-selling opportunities with sister Planit companies, Licom, HRS and Cabinet Vision." Born and educated in the West Country, Chris Aston joined Westinghouse Brake and Signal Company in Chippenham as an apprentice in 1980.

He subsequently gained an ONC, HNC and HND in Electronic Engineering and was named the company's 'apprentice of the year' in 1984.

Aston moved to Radan in 1987 as support engineer and was promoted to support manager in 1990.

Six years later, he was appointed technical services director and in April 2003 became Company general manager.

Married with two children, Aston still lives in Chippenham and is a keen golfer, playing to a handicap of 6.
