Rapid manufacturing conference scheduled
The forthcoming TCT Conference on Rapid Manufacturing focuses on providing solutions for accelerating products to market.
The organisers of the forthcoming TCT Conference on Rapid Manufacturing (RM), have announced the line-up of confirmed key speakers, which includes Geoff McFarland, Renishaw's group engineering director This annual conference, being held September 26 and 27, 2007, at the Ricoh Arena, Coventry, UK, focuses on providing solutions for accelerating products to market, and will also feature a keynote address from Joe Ferry, head of design at Virgin Atlantic

In his speech, McFarland will focus on the challenges of evaluating numerous competing ideas during the early stages of product development, a key issue for Renishaw.
Renishaw annually invests around 17% of its sales revenues on research and development (including engineering costs).
He has overseen a substantial investment in rapid prototyping facilities, enabling faster testing of concepts produced using selective laser sintering and fused deposition modelling techniques.
Renishaw's in-house capabilities also include rapid prototyping of PCBs, injection moulding and vacuum casting of plastics parts, all aiming to reduce design lead times.
McFarland heads Renishaw's group engineering function and is also responsible for group patents.
The TCT 2007 Conference will concentrate on actual applications of RM from the global marketplace, with a special focus this year on the real issues of implementation.
Other key industry figures that have already confirmed that they will participate in the conference programme include Terry Wohlers of Wohlers Associates, Dan Johns of Airbus UK and Tim Steward of Contour Premium Aircraft Seating.
At the start of day two, there will also be panel session, featuring some of the most notable experts from the RM industry, giving delegates the opportunity to openly discuss pertinent issues that they would like addressed.
