Reed Exhibitions has bought India's electronics manufacturing exhibition, 'Componex', which has been showing electronics components and electronic production technology for 15 years.

Reed Exhibitions has announced its acquisition of India's leading event for electronics manufacturing, Componex, from 'Electronics Today' magazine Componex is the leading regional trade show for electronics components and electronic production technology

It has been serving the electronics industry in India for nearly 15 years.

The 2007 edition took place in February this year and attracted over 20,000 visitors to view products and services from 826 exhibitors drawn from more than 25 countries.

From 2008, the event will be branded as 'Componex/Nepcon'.

The reason for the namechange is to signify that the event will benefit from membership of Reed Exhibitions' global electronics portfolio.

The Indian event will join some of the industry's most well known events; Nepcon Shanghai and Nepcon Shenzen, Globaltronics Singapore, and Nepcon UK.

Componex/Nepcon will continue to address both the production equipment and components elements of the global market.

In addition to acquiring Componex, Reed have also today signed a multi-year sponsorship deal with S Swarn, CEO and editor in chief of India's leading publication for the electronics industry, 'Electronics Today'.

Under the agreement 'Electronics Today' will continue its association with Componex by providing exclusive support and endorsement to Componex/Nepcon India, further guaranteeing the continued success of the event in the future.

Componex/Nepcon 2008 will again take place in New Delhi's Pragati Maidan exhibition centre, February 20-22, 2008, and will be organised by Reed Exhibitions' wholly-owned business in Delhi.

Reed has been present in India since January 2006 and already operates six events using a team of over 20 full-time staff.

The integration of the event into the Reed Nepcon network is expected to significantly grow international participation from visitors and exhibitors to future editions.

Commenting on the acquisition, Mike Allsopp CEO of Reed Exhibitions India stated: "We are delighted to have the opportunity to acquire Componex, which is a market-leading event in an industry where India is fast becoming a world-leading player.

We are immensely grateful for the tremendous work Mr S Swarn has done in building up the reputation of Componex over the past about 15 years, and are delighted that we will be continuing that association through our partnership with him and Electronics Today." Swarn, said: " Componex had been growing at the rate of 30-40% annually over the last decade to emerge as the largest show of electronic components and production equipment in the South Asia region.

I am confident that Reed with their experience of successfully organising Nepcon events worldwide, will take Componex/Nepcon to greater heights.

I wish Reed success.

Electronics Today is proud of its continued association with Componex/Nepcon." * About Indian electronics industry - in recent years India has emerged alongside China as one of world's 'hottest' destinations for electronics manufacturing, with local manufacturers experiencing rapid growth and many multinationals setting up major production facilities attracted by India's highly educated workforce.
