Two RS232 and two RS485 ports allow an operator interface panel, with a large 15in display, to communicate with virtually any serial device in the plant.

Red Lion Controls has introduced its model G315 operator interface panel It features a large 15in XGA (1024 x 768mm) display

The G315 adds an additional RS485 port to the G3 family's standard compliment of three serial ports and an Ethernet port.

The two RS232 and two RS485 ports allow the G315 to communicate with virtually any serial device.

The G315's Ethernet 10/100 Base-TX port supports up to four protocols simultaneously.

The G315 panel also provides a USB programming port and an expansion slot for the addition of optional communications card.

These facilities provide users with extended serial communication or fieldbus connectivity such as Profibus, DeviceNet or CANOpen.

As with all its G3 panels, Red Lion said to manufacturingtalk.com that the G315 has an integrated protocol converter fitted as standard.

It allows the HMI to act as a communication hub between any and all connected devices.

Programmed via Red Lion Controls free Crimson 2.0 software, data exchange is achieved in seconds using the built-in driver list and drag and drop register mapping.

Red Lion said that a PLC can now communicate with any drive, SCADA and serial or Ethernet enabled devices.

* Data logging - using the G315 integrated data logger, information can be recorded in 'IT-Ready' CSV files on a CompactFlash card for further analysis or troubleshooting.

In addition, the embedded Web Server provides remote viewing and control capability needs no extra software.

All is wanted is a simple Web browser.

Users can monitor and control an application or download data logs using HTTP or FTP access.

Product manager, Red Lion HMI products, Jesse Benefiel, said: "With integrated features such as multiple-protocol support, data logging and built in web and FTP servers, the G315 performs SCADA-like functionality - at a fraction of the cost".

Red Lion claims that its G3 series offers the most powerful communications platform available today.

It provides a cost-effective solution for protocol conversion and data management, in local, as well as harsh, remote locations.
