Bandsawing system solved materials
delivery
Urgent demand from production to provide cut pieces faster and with minimum stock removal allowance led to the purchase of an automatic bar storage tower combined with a new bandsaw.
Improving details increases strength: As the worldwide active and well-known manufacturer of production systems for the plastic processing industry, Krauss-Maffei Kunststofftechnik in Munich, Germany, offers a wide range of machines for the injection molding, polyurethane and extrusion technology They manufacture modularised standard series, allowing only limited serial production due to individual customer demands - and then only in small series

A new range of large capacity, CNC turning and part-off equipment for tube up to 8in diameter has been introduced to the UK by Rivers Machinery under a sole agency agreement.
This also is the case in the production of injection molding machines, for which Ludwig Mayer (Manager of the Production Centre) is responsible.
He has always been extremely concerned that - due to conventional storage of different materials like tubes, solids and angle irons in stacking cassettes and cantilever arm shelves - on the one hand a lot of space was required and on the other hand fast access was nearly made impossible.
Also, the material handling was quite labour-intensive.

Dubus machine cuts shower component costs
Sequential sawing, drilling and notching of aluminium extrusions on separate machines have been replaced by multiple machining in a single clamping in a Dubus cell at Coram (UK).
Over time it was recognised that the two older saws have seldom been used to capacity - making them inefficient.
And then there was the urgent demand from production to deliver material continuously and to provide cut pieces faster and with minimum stock removal allowance.
Investment in optimised costs and better profitability Ludwig Mayer decided to completely reorganise and rationalise the bar storage and metal sawing technology/premanufacturing.
To realise this demanding venture, he contacted the storage and metal sawing specialists of the market leader Kasto Maschinenbau in Achern, Germany.
After an analysis of the storage inventory and the to be cut materials, Krauss-Maffei made the decision: Procurement of a Bar Storage Tower Kasto Unitower F 3.0 in combination with a Bandsaw Kastopos GA 4.
The Kasto Unitower F 3.0 is a tower storage system, which automatically stores and removes bar material, cut pieces and remnants.
With a system height of 8300 mm, 41 cassettes with the usable dimensions 6500 x 680 x 240mm (l x w x h) are stored in this system.
Each cassette is designed for a usable load of 3000kg and has various possibilities to be subdivided to be able to store different material shapes and dimensions optimally and space-saving.
For easy storing and removing, the system has a laterally moving station on its longitudinal side, where the cassettes are made available to the operator.
To handle the sometimes very heavy individual bars, a jib crane with a reach of 6000mm and a load capacity of 1000kg is mounted directly to the storage tower.
The result of optimisation: Make 1 from 2 and save space and time This allows the transport of material directly from the cassettes onto the infeed roller conveyor of the new Bandsaw Kastopos GA 4.
The crane certainly helps to store the material and to restore the remnants.
Just one employee is able to handle the material and operate the saw at the same time.
The automatic Bandsaw KASTOpos GA 4 can be used universally for straight and mitre cuts (0 - 60deg) for easy and difficult to cut materials.
Equipped with a continuous material roller conveyor, hydraulic material clamping, Universal Hydraulic with cutting force display and the saw control Kasto Compact Control, the premanufacturing has become flexible and personnel-saving.
Ludwig Mayer says in his summary: "The calculated return of investment for this storing and sawing technology was only one year.
We have definitely saved space; we need 1 operator less, have substantially shorter distances and clearly faster access.
The storage overview has evidently improved.
We are now able to fulfil the wishes of our assembly line faster and more accurate than ever".
In the meantime, a second Storage System KastoUnitower F 3.0 was equipped with a circular saw Kastodisc A 10, which proves that Krauss-Maffei's experiences have been in fact positive.
