Sawing and storage systems benefit SMEs
SMEs can profit from a manufacturer and supplier of all sawing methods (hacksaws, bandsaws and circular saws), bar storage and retrieval systems as well as sheet metal systems.
Work and process sequences in production facilities and in the supplier industry as well as in job shops are becoming more and more similar Basically, requirements to increase productivity, securing efficiency and quality, improvement of profitability and competitiveness are the same

Turning and parting-off heavy tube and pipe
A new range of large capacity, CNC turning and part-off equipment for tube up to 8in diameter has been introduced to the UK by Rivers Machinery under a sole agency agreement.
But in many production facilities, there is still quite a streamlining potential for job shops and the supplier industry in regard to storage and cutting of materials.
This can certainly be almost 'cost-neutrally' increased with the help of universal, flexible as well as high performance sawing and material flow units.
On closer examination of the sequences in the so-called small and medium enterprises (SMEs), one can quickly see that not enough attention is paid to material handling including material flow as well as work and production preparation by prefabrication and especially the timely supply of raw material.

Dubus machine cuts shower component costs
Sequential sawing, drilling and notching of aluminium extrusions on separate machines have been replaced by multiple machining in a single clamping in a Dubus cell at Coram (UK).
Moreover, hardly any rationalization resources are used and in many cases, again and again, a second person has to be made available for material handling.
* Making money by increasing productivity through economic sawing and storing - in spite of extensive but badly organized stock keeping, bottlenecks at machines or at the on-site assembly and shop assembly still happen, which consequently leads to a reduced productivity and prolonged cycle times.
When examining the non-productive idle times and the personnel needed and if one compares these costs with the possibilities to increase efficiency, productivity and profitability, there will be no doubt about a targeted investment in new, economic metal saws and material storage and retrieval systems.
The family business KASTO Maschinenbau, the worldwide market leader in metal saws and material storage and retrieval systems, has recognized this years ago and reacted with a wide product range of bandsaws, hacksaws and circular saws as well as bar storage and retrieval systems and sheet metal storage systems.
Here, the primary focus was not on huge machines with highly technical equipment but to tailor them to the need to job shops, machine shops and metal processing suppliers.
The customers profit especially from the fact that KASTO as the only manufacturer and supplier has all sawing methods (hacksaws, bandsaws and circular saws), bar storage and retrieval systems as well as sheet metal systems and is therefore able to give neutral advice.
* For each application the right saw - 'hacksaws' are available in two versions: KASTOhbs and KASTOpsb.
The KASTO hbs 1 and the KASTO hbs 2 are semi-automatic hacksaws for machine shops and the KASTOpsb 2 as well as the KASTOpsb 4 are fully hydraulic production hacksaws.
They are best suited for semi-automatic single cuts and, depending on the saw blade, can cut structural steels as well as difficult to cut materials and aluminum.
The 'bandsaw' programme contains of four machines: KASTOcut E 2, KASTObsm, KASTOfunctional U and KASTOfunctional A.
The KASTOcut E 2 and the KASTOfunctional U can cut semi-automatically single cuts and the KASTObsm cuts manual as well as semi-automatic cuts.
The KASTOfunctional A is designed right from the start for the semi-automatic single cut plus fully automatic mass production cutting.
Moreover, all compact saws cut besides 90 deg straight cuts also one or double-sided miter cuts.
The bandsaws are suited to machine all metal materials and can therefore be used highly flexible.
The programme range 'circular saws' has nine versions in total with the series KASTOdisc 4 and 8, KASTOdisc 7 and 10, KASTOdisc A 10, KASTOalu 12, 14 and 20 as well as KASTOalu A 13.
Depending on the version, they are suited for manual and semi-automatic single cuts as well as for fully automatic serial cuts.
With the circular saws - except the KASTOalu A 13 - 90deg straight cuts as well as one-sided/double-sided miter cuts can be done.
Again, depending on the version, the KASTOdisc machines can cut structural steels and even partially difficult to cut steels while the KASTOalu is exclusively designed and equipped to saw aluminum and plastics.
* Accessories for customized automation - for all machines, suitable, robust handling and material flow devices are available; starting with simple material roller conveyors for infeed and outfeed or clamping vises, hold-down devices and stops up to bar magazines and material feed systems as well as digital measuring stops.
Moreover, KASTO also offers customers simple but very efficient bar storage and material handling systems as well as special sheet metal systems.
Storage systems can be used as stand-alone universal storage systems as well as production-close - directly assigned to one or several saws or sheet metal processing machines.
Here, the customer can select from the Unibloc Stacking Cradle System, the Unitower Storage System and the KASTOlift Universal Storage System.
Ideal for metal job shops and the SMEs is the tower series Unitower.
As cassette storage system for bar stock or also as sheet metal storage system for raw sheets, semi-finished products or remnants, this is the optimum and compact solution for smaller storage volumes in job shops, industry and distribution.
The decisive advantage of the KASTO-storage and retrieval systems compared with conventional floor or cantilever arm systems is that the needed material is already available and not needed material does not need to be restored with the help of personnel, crane and forklift.
