Vertical bandsaw has large work area
A vertical bandsaw has large work area, double-sided mitre adjustment and many automatic functions as well as a saw unit that can also be tilted forwards in different ways depending on each task.
KASTO Maschinenbau, the market leader in metal saws and bar storage systems, reaches new dimensions in automatic miter cutting with the miter bandsaw KASTOvericut A The semi-automatic machine has already many advantages - but the fully automatic machine can offer even more

Turning and parting-off heavy tube and pipe
A new range of large capacity, CNC turning and part-off equipment for tube up to 8in diameter has been introduced to the UK by Rivers Machinery under a sole agency agreement.
The saw unit is a vertical bandsaw, which is swiveled around a horizontal axis for double-sided miter cuts.
The machine has a very large work range; with straight cuts 600 x 460mm (H x W).
When cutting miters, the work range is 425 x 460mm for 45 deg cuts and 300 x 460mm with a maximum miter angle of 60 deg.

Dubus machine cuts shower component costs
Sequential sawing, drilling and notching of aluminium extrusions on separate machines have been replaced by multiple machining in a single clamping in a Dubus cell at Coram (UK).
For such a large work range, this saw needs only little floor space and swivel range compared to other horizontal bandsaws, i e, a footprint of 2700mm x 1900mm.
The saw is robustly designed as heavy-duty welded construction; the motorized saw head swivels via a precise axis to +60 deg/-45 deg, optional to +/-60 deg.
Angles are positioned with an accuracy of +/-0.25 deg and are digitally shown at the display.
Moreover, the saw unit can also be tilted to the front in different ways depending on each task.
The standard design tilts by 3 deg to make the cutting process faster and to cut with less burr, whereas the saw unit can also be delivered in an upright version for notching cuts.
* Ideal material handling - another essential advantage of the KASTOvericut concept is the continuous transport roller conveyor, which allows to move all kinds of profiles, cut-pieces, triangles and more in and out of the machine - as an option also fully automatically - without any problems.
The transport rollers are reaching close to the cutting slot, there is only a small gap for the vertically cutting saw blade to pass through.
Moreover, this machine has excellent accessibility.
Optionally, it is possible - when cutting I-beams - to position these directly in the work area of the machine with the saw head pulled all the way back.
This can clearly reduce costs for transport roller conveyors, drives as well as required floor space.
It is not necessary to adjust the clamping vises to the cutting task.
And a longitudinal material move by horizontal clamping vises that press diagonally does not happen.
Clamping is via accurately guided, hydraulic clamping vises on both sides of the cutting channel.
Optionally, special form jaws can be added for cutting bundles.
They allow short remnant and cut-piece lengths in automatic operation.
To guarantee precision - especially when cutting miter angles - the machine can be equipped with a vertical clamping arm to hold the material down during the cut.
Depending on the miter angle, this hold-down arm is automatically positioned to the right or left of the blade.
The central control and operating panel are at the front side of the machine.
From here, all machine functions are controlled.
With this machine - as well as with other KASTO machines - safety is a very important factor.
The protective screen, can be easily swiveled away to allow direct access to the work area and makes machine supply and removal of even short cut-pieces very easy.
To achieve good cutting results, the upper band guide arm, which is guided on linear guides, can be hydraulically adjusted to the cutting height.
The chips are moved out of the machine with a powered chip conveyor (option).
* 'Lights - out' operation: automatic material feed - the basic machine is automated with a material feed, mounted either to the left hand or right hand side of the machine.
Depending upon the application, the feed vise moves the material up to 3000mm in a single stroke.
A frequency-controlled, precision rack and pinion drive is used to position the feed vise.
To guarantee a safe transport - even of bent work pieces - the fixed clamping jaw is automatically pulled away from the support edge during the return movement by 10 mm.
The fixed machine clamping vise also pulls back its fixed side from the material edge to allow touch-free material transport.
The incremental feed reduces the number of clamping processes during mass production cuts.
* For each task, the right control - as with other automatic KASTO saws, the KASTOvericut A has an automatic zero positioning of the first cut too.
After entry of cut piece length and number of pieces as well activation of control function 'Zero Positioning' the first cut (without trim cut) is positioned to the desired cut piece length and cut fully automatically.
Depending on the application, different controls are used for the KASTOvericut U and A.
The KASTO CompactControl is the standard control for the semi-automatic version.
The EasyControl provides even more automation.
It has an order memory for more than 200 length/number and angle combinations with the possibility to program an additional third miter angle to cut pointed ends.
Moreover, there is the possibility to control an automatic material feed or cut-piece sorting device.
If a higher integration degree of the system is needed, i.e for the material feed from one KASTOcenter or for fully automatic supply from a KASTO bar storage and retrieval system via the KASTOsawcell or with cut-piece sorting via robot, the saw control TechnoControl is used.
* Reliable discharge of cut pieces and intermediate pieces - KASTO's many years of experience with fully automatic miter cuts of band and circular saws have shown that a continuous and fully automatic process is only guaranteed when trim cuts, intermediate cuts and remnants do not have to be manually removed from the machine by the operator.
The machine must be able to correctly cut these parts fully automatically and then to remove those reliably out of the work area of the machine.
When the KASTOvericut A was designed, an optional sorting pusher was developed with the experience and knowledge in discharging of short parts gained from the KASTOmodular, the KASTOgks and KSATOflex .
A horizontally moving, linear guided cut-piece pusher removes the parts and allows a fully automatic operation without personnel.
After the end of the cut, short cut-pieces - straight, miter cuts or the gusset - are diagonally pushed over the saw table out of the machine.
Cut-pieces up to 400 mm length are discharged into containers via a hydraulically tilting roller conveyor.
For long cut-pieces a roller conveyor or a plate band/conveyor - possibly in connection with a lateral pushing device - can be used.
* Miter (mitre) cutting: it does not work without peripherals - for the vericut series, KASTO has developed an extensive programme range of infeed and outfeed devices with roller conveyors, one- or two directional lateral pushing devices within the framework of a modularly designed roller conveyor and lateral transport periphery.
Measuring stops can also be integrated into this infeed and outfeed concept.
Looking at the modern, ergonomical and sturdy design of the KASTOvericut series, its extensive standard equipment and the large cutting and swivel range, the KASTOvericut is a saw with an excellent cost/benefit ratio to cut I-beams and profiles.
The upward compatibility of the KASTOvericut modules with the basic machine as well as with the infeed and outfeed periphery allows tailor-made solutions for the customer's application, i e, a semi-automatic machine with infeed and outfeed roller conveyors or an automatic saw with infeed and outfeed periphery including automatic lateral material transport.
The highest automation degree offers the complete integration of such a machine into a storage system, which means material supply from a KASTOcenter or a KASTOsawcell without any personnel.
