Moving table band saw eases material
handling
Sawing large billets are large diameter bars has been made easier by a moving table, on which the work is clamped away from the band saw and thn the table moves it into into the cutting area.
KASTO Maschinenbau offers four different work ranges to band saw large billets The company said that all of its bandsaws are double column machines with a mineral cast saw head and have a moving machine table

Turning and parting-off heavy tube and pipe
A new range of large capacity, CNC turning and part-off equipment for tube up to 8in diameter has been introduced to the UK by Rivers Machinery under a sole agency agreement.
Large work pieces with a weight of up to 45 tonnes and the dimensions 1320 x 1720mm can be loaded, adjusted and clamped onto the table outside of the sawing area.
Afterwards, the table is moved with the work piece into the saw with a travel distance of 2100mm in the standard version.
Depending whether one or several cut-pieces are needed, the table continues to move by the appropriate length or it transports the good piece and the remnant out of the saw area for removal.

Dubus machine cuts shower component costs
Sequential sawing, drilling and notching of aluminium extrusions on separate machines have been replaced by multiple machining in a single clamping in a Dubus cell at Coram (UK).
Material is clamped using a hydraulic clamping vice with side shift cylinder on the fixed side.
The standard machine comes with an ergonomic, centrally located operating panel and the KASTOCompactControl with important features such as order and technology control, softkeys, LCD-display, clear text display of operating information as well as an NC-controlled ball lead screw for material feed.
With the moving table, individual bars can be fully automatically cut to a remnant length of 50mm.
This allows extremely effective material utilization.
More operating comfort is offered by the KASTOEasyControl.
It is based on a hard drive-free industrial PC with colour display and touch screen.
Functions linclude the following.
* Order, tool and material data management (up to 500).
* Calculation of material needed.
* Remnant optimization.
* Technology adaptation and technology memory.
* Machine diagnostics.
* Automatic order processing.
Much attention is paid to the continuous and easy operation to enter orders, to track orders as well as the manual operation.
Easy to understand graphic symbols, operation and message acknowledgement directly via touch screen and additional features like online language change make operation easy.
* Expandable sawing systems - performance and hardware design of the KASTOEasyControl allow for expansive options, which can be added at a later time.
These include, as follows.
* Automatic data backup via USB stick.
* Host interface to connect to higher ranking ERP systems.
* Data export and import, for example in Microsoft Excel via USB stick (material master data).
An optional device on the moving table allows a 'shuttle operation': while one work piece is cut, a second one is removed or clamped.
This considerably reduces set-up times.
At the same time, machine utilization times and capacity utilization increase.
This allows to flexibly and economically use the saw in single cut and in small series with constantly changing tasks as well as in production cutting.
* Mineral cast composite construction for accurate, damage free cuts - with the very large work range - with the KASTOhba 8 x 10 it is 860 x 1060mm (h x w), with the KASTOhba 10 x 12 it is 1060 x 1260mm, with the KASTOhba 13 it is 1360 x 1360mm and with the KASTOhba 13 x 17 it is 1360 x 1760mm.
There are virtually no limits for a universal use for all kinds of imaginable tasks, said KASTO to manufacturingtalk.com.
The KASTOhba series is well suited to use bi- metal and/or carbide bandsaw blades allowing productive cutting of solid materials of all steel qualities as well as difficult to cut materials like inconel, hastelloy, titanium and similar materials.
For repeatedly accurate cut-pieces, the high-performance bandsaw consists of a welded machine column and a saw unit in steel mineral cast composite construction.
Due to the known damping qualities of mineral cast, a vibration-free, quiet and damage free cutting operation is guaranteed.
By offering a 10 year warranty for the saw head, KASTO again proves its technological market leadership.
A 11kW saw drive, and infinitely variable cutting speeds from 12 to 90mm/min allow the machine to handle all possible saw jobs.
* Precise cutting - the massive double-column guide for the saw unit and the hydraulically pretensioned carbide guides for the bandsaw blades allow a precise cut.
A permanent rotating brush cleans the bandsaw blade from chips, which in return further improves the cutting quality and helps with tool life.
The saw feed of the KASTOhba is controlled via a precise hydraulic proportional valve, which, due to its distance and speed feedback, ensures a constant feed per tooth even with different temperatures.
Additionally, cutting and feed values are stored in the saw control.
The machine can also adjust itself to the cutting conditions.
For each tool type cutting data can be stored.
* Accessories make for shorter set-up times - for safe and fast material handling and to reduce set-up times, additional options are available.
For example, on a moving machine table another clamping vice can be installed and the material can be clamped for positioning.
To cut remnants, a magnet clamping unit can be added to the clamping vise installed on the table.
This new clamping technology allows cutting of even large work pieces until only very short remnants are left.
With more accessories like adjusting aides, prism supports, supports and cut-piece collectors, the peripheral tasks can be optimized again, which in return results in better machine utilization times and therefore in higher productivity.
