A continuous flow shot blast and painting system removes of rust and scale from sheet metal up to 3300m wide and coats it with a temporary anti-corrosion paint (welding primer).

A sheet metal and steel-processing manufacturer has recently taken delivery of a complete shot blast and painting system with a total length of 72m from Rosler Annually, more than 100,000 tonnes of steel, sheet steel, carriers and profiles, divided into more than 1,000 different types, with maximum widths of up to 3300mm and heights of up to 500mm, will in future be preserved in a Rosler continuous flow shot blast system

The process involves the removal of rust and scale and coating the steel with a temporary anti-corrosion paint (welding primer).

The ingenious system enables sheet steel, carriers and profiles to be transported to a blow-off device via roller conveyors, where water or heavy contamination is removed.

Any remaining moisture still adhering to a surface is removed in the pre-heating section, using a hot-air circulation system.

The steel is then heated to approximately 35 deg C, the optimum temperature for the application of paint.

Once roughly cleaned and heated the material passes through an RRB 32/5 shot blast machine, containing a shot blast chamber with eight high-performance 22kW 'Hurricane H42' blast wheels.

The blast wheels are mounted without creating any shadow effects on the sheet steel, at the same time, in order to achieve the required degree of cleanliness, the abrasive jet coverage is wide and even.

This process results in a surface roughness value between 45 micron to 65 micron.

Once the material is clean and shot blasted, the painting process begins.

To temporarily protect the steel, a 20 micron even film of welding primer is applied, a technologically difficult procedure.

If the coating layer is too thick there is a risk that when later fabricating the products, such as burning and welding, gases from this layer may permeate the welding seam.

Whereas, the anti-corrosive paint must cover and seal even the smallest of surface recesses.

If all parameters are optimally adapted to each other, the ingenious Rosler system will shot blast and paint sheet steel at an impressive pass-through velocity of 4m/min and profiles at 2 to 3m/min.

Rosler's expertise in designing and manufacturing turn-key shot-blast and painting systems ensured that that, apart from offering high levels of technical know-how and logistic solutions, it was also able to provide a system at an extremely cost-effective price.

Said Klaas Boie: "Within the framework of the offer we have come up with a 'carefree package.

It is called 'carefree package' because it also includes a detailed profitability calculation taking into account the costs of electricity, gas, paint as well as depreciation and calculative interest rates.

In short: the customer is able to see at one glance how much the shot blasting and painting of one square metre of sheet steel or one tonne of steel costs.

However, my experience has also shown that today's customers prefer an all-inclusive package which is why Rosler as a reliable all-inclusive supplier is the ideal partner for investment plans in the field of shot blasting and painting." The success of Rosler's all-embracing package has generated unprecedented interest from other users, so much so that orders have been received for seven more shot blasting and painting systems from similar concerns.
