A custom-moulded bottle is a packaging format that can withstand different processes to suit a wide range of products some of which need in-pack sterilisation.

A custom-moulded bottle manufactured for the launch of the UK foodservice industry's first ever premium range of ready-to-use cooking sauces and soups, under the famous Loyd Grossman brand upheld the reputation of RPC Containers Corby, in the UK, as a leading supplier of food service containers In the past, chefs have shied away from using ready to use sauces and soups, but brand owner Premier Foods has developed a new patent pending manufacturing process to deliver consistent high quality in taste and performance

RPC Containers told manufacturingtalk.com that Premier Foods required a packaging format that could withstand different processes to suit their wide range of products.

Some of these processes need in-pack sterilisation, that would be durable in busy foodservice environments and also provide a long ambient shelf life in order to prevent the need for expensive chilled storage space.

RPC Corby's expertise and experience in designing and manufacturing technically demanding foodservice jars was invaluable to meet these stringent requirements.

Their PP/EVOH/PP construction maintains product quality, whilst plastics' lightweight and shatterproof qualities provide a convenient format that also meets food safety guidelines.

For the Loyd Grossman launch, RPC Corby has developed a new 2kg custom design with a vivid asymmetrical shape that is easy to spot in the kitchen and is perfectly weighted to add accurate pouring.

In addition to being blow moulded in PP/EVOH/PP, the bottle features UV inhibitors for enhanced product protection.

A large decoration area provides room for full and clear nutritional panels and product information, while the resealable closure supplied by RPC Halstead means that chefs can use the product over time without affecting its quality.

"Balancing functionality with distinctive design under tight timetables was always going to be challenging but our close working relationship with the team from Premier Foods has enabled us to develop an outstanding product," explained Charlotte Priestnall, a product development technologist at RPC Corby.

Business Development manager at Premier Foods, David Ellis-Jones, said that the bottle was a major innovation for the foodservice sector and it was vital that the product range both reflects the reputation of the Loyd Grossman name and meets the standard expected by chefs and consumers.

He added: "RPC Corby's contribution ensures that the range will make an excellent impact throughout its shelf life.".
