The Aluminium 2006 trade fair is once again staging a competition - 'European Aluminium Awards' - presented every two years to identify the top innovations in the aluminium industry.

The Aluminium 2006 is once again staging a competition to identify the top innovations in the aluminium industry The 'European Aluminium Awards' are the leading international awards for the aluminium industry and are presented every two years for creative solutions at the world Aluminium trade fair in Essen

The awards are being organised for the fifth time on the initiative of the Dutch Aluminium Centre in conjunction with the EAA, the GDA and the organisers of the Aluminium, Reed Exhibitions Deutschland .

The integration of Europe's leading European alumini um organisations reflects the intensely international nature of this industry and the extent of the influence exerted by the awards.

A total of six awards will be presented.

The category 'Aluminium End Product Awards' is aimed at the customers of aluminium and presents three prizes for 'Design', 'Innovation' and 'Environment and Sustainability'.

The aim of this award is to draw attention to the high quality and forward-looking characteristics of the material (e g, recyclability) and its design possibilities.

The category 'Industrial Innovations Awards' is aimed at the three main application areas of aluminium: 'Transport and Automotive', 'Building and Construction' and 'Machinery and Electronics'.

The main focus here is on aluminium components which have a positive influence on the overall product, e g, in terms of its design or weight.

To qualify for entry, the products should have had their European market launch, or have been manufactured, after 1 July 2004.

The main assessment criteria for the products include the functional use of aluminium, the innovative force and the design.

The Aluminium Awards give exhibitors an ideal platform for presenting their innovative power to a wider audience.

The nominated products will be displayed to the exhibition visitors in the newly designed Galeria of the Essen Exhibition Centre, Germany, which was only opened in 2005.

The winners will be announced and the awards presented on 20 September at an evening event during Aluminium 2006 in Congress Center West, to which roughly 1,000 international guests have been invited.
