FLGA package for 16 bit microcontroller
A FLGA package M16C/62P from Renesas Technology is made for sensor applications and allows a large number of devices to be built smaller and lighter.
Renesas Technology Europe has extended its M16C platform microcontroller line-up with the small, FLGA package M16C/62P to meet the demand for smaller micros for space-sensitive applications Due to the worldwide demand for smaller and smarter applications that exist in the current consumer and industrial miniaturisation trend, Renesas has introduced the device in a small package to maintain and expand its market share in the handheld application and sensor area, where small form factor is the key to success

A microcontroller line-up is said to be ideal for the next generation of industrial inverters (motor control), in particular for drives in the range of 1-100kW.
Microcontrollers bring functional enhancements
A total of eight Microcontroller models featuring a 50MHz maximum operating frequency, 50MIPS performance, and comprehensive on-chip peripheral functions.
Designated M30627FJPWG, the high specification module M16C/62P is available with a maximum internal memory capacity of 512KB FLASH and 31KB RAM.
All 128 pins are intelligently distributed amongst the 145 pads of the FLGA body, to allow all the functions of the M16C/62P to be utilised without restriction.
With edge to edge dimensions of just 10x10mm, the space requirement is two and a half times less than that for the smallest 100 pin QFP body package.

900MHz band ZigBee chipset from collaboration
A 900MHz band ZigBee chipset is to be developed with RF technology from ZMD and microcontrollers from Renesas.
This allows compact device sizes even for applications with high computing power and a heavy software demand.
The M16C/62P CPU core operates at a maximum clock frequency of 24MHz, resulting in a minimum instruction cycle time of 41.6nsec.
This performance level is enhanced by an additional 2-channel Direct Memory Access Controller (DMAC) and a hardware multiplier.
Peripheral functions of the M16C/62P include a 16-bit timer (11 channels), USART (asynchronous/synchronous interfaces; 5 channels), a 10-bit A/D converter (26 input channels), an 8-bit D/A converter, three-phase motor control unit, a CRC code generation unit, and a watchdog timer that keeps counting, using the on-chip oscillator even if the device fails and no Xin clock is available.
As a member of the M16C/62P platform, the M30627FJPWG provides the common family features of highly efficient C-language compatibility, high resilience to EMS (Electro Magnetic Susceptibility) and low EMI (Electro Magnetic Interference) behaviour.
Low power consumption is achieved by the provision of several different operation modes.
For example, utilising the stop mode offers the opportunity to count external signal pulses using an internal timer wake up structure at an overall power consumption of 0.
7uA.
The product is ideal for applications ranging from intelligent sensors with implemented bus protocols and controls for actuators, to medical technology.
The M16C/62P FLGA package allows a large number of devices to be built smaller and lighter - and because of the additional I/Os - with a more complex structure.
Samples of this package variant are now available.
