Wing skin production tooling contract completed
A GBP 500,000-plus contract to provide modifications to manufacturing tooling at Airbus UK's wing skin production facility at its North Wales site has been completed.
The welding capability includes the latest synergic MIG technology as well as advanced projection welding equipment for both sheet joining and solid component welding.
The introduction of the dedicated welding facility has been supported with the installation of modern ancillary equipment including a Edwards Pearson guillotine capable of cutting 3m long x10mm thick mild steel and 6mm stainless steel.
The investment gives Pressex a full in-house capability for the pressing, forming and assembly of a wide range of metal fabrications.
The introduction of the integrated services not only reduces customer lead times but broadens the range of metalworking services available, for example by enabling customised assembly cells to be created for bespoke customer needs.
The investment in engineering capacity at Pressex forms part of the first phase of a GBP 2 million investment programme being undertaken by the parent Responsive Engineering Group over the next two years.
