MACH 2006 will provide a major platform for the launch of a new generation of inserts - a range of new grades to increase productivity levels.

'Powering up Productivity' is the theme of the Sandvik Coromant stand in Hall 5, Stand 5130, at MACH 2006, which will provide a major platform for the launch of a new generation of inserts - a range of new grades demonstrating Coromant's commitment to helping customers increase productivity levels - as well as a showpiece for major end-user manufacturing industries A Sandvik Coromant investigation suggests that annually, there are GBP 30 million of realisable savings to be achieved in the UK metal cutting industry simply through applying the correct combination of cutting insert application and tooling processes

"The exhibition provides a platform for manufacturer's to plug into our concepts of increased productivity, better profitability and improved competitiveness," claimed Andy Smith, Sandvik Coromant's UK's senior manager - marketing.

"With its new insert generation and unrivalled industry knowledge, Coromant is uniquely positioned to share its knowledge with those involved in manufacturing, demonstrating how to increase productivity and an improved return on machine tool investments within the industry," he added.

Sandvik Coromant will take this opportunity to focus on different ways of optimising machine tool utilisation and reducing component costs within different industry segments.

Industries under the spotlight on the Coromant stand will be Aerospace, Automotive, Small Part Machining and the wider Mechanical Engineering sector.

There will also be a focus on Multi-Task machining.

The Coromant stand will also feature presentations where Sandvik Coromant's specialists will address a range of topical metal cutting issues to support the new products and industry focus on the stand - all with the message of 'Powering up Productivity'.

New products: Sandvik Coromant will be focussing on its new generation of turning and milling inserts at MACH 2006.

With the introduction of its GC4225 grade, Sandvik Coromant is addressing the requirement to achieve best results in the diverse ISO P25 area using a single insert grade.

This has always been a challenge but with GC4225, Coromant has developed an improved, versatile grade capable of adapting to variations in workpiece material.

Offering improved performance in tough and demanding steel milling operations, Sandvik Coromant's new GC1030 and GC4240 insert grades are the first in a new generation of milling grades purpose designed for modern machining conditions where predictability and security are vital.

GC1030 is the first choice when machining difficult materials or when operating in unstable conditions where long overhangs and vibration problems may prevail.

GC4240 is a grade with a completely new substrate and CVD coating offering higher security for trouble free machining.

The extended range of CoroDrill 880 short hole drills features a completely new 'Step Technology' technique to create outstanding cutting force balance while producing significant improvements in productivity and hole quality.

The CoroDrill 805 is the newest addition to Coromant's holemaking products, suited to deep hole drilling on conventional machine tools.

Also new at MACH 2006 will be the CoroMill 365 face milling cutter for roughing to semi finishing of cast iron components.

Ideal for applications where large volumes of material need to be removed quickly, the insert offers a strong and stable design with a 'multiedge' cutting concept.

This is capable of 6mm depths of cut in a burr and fritter-free environment.

For super alloy machining, Coromant's new GC1105 grade is the first choice for versatile machining in application areas from roughing to intermediate and last stage machining, all with the same grade.

The range of ground inserts features a wide range of geometries with a good edge line toughness which remains razor sharp over extended use for precision finish machining.

Finally, the CB7015 CBN grade offers significant cost savings in providing the ability to turn hardened surfaces as opposed to more expensive grinding operations.

CB7015 offers a unique combination of high metal removal rates, predictability and reliability.

Increased speed, feed and cutting depth with a dual edge identification system combine to produce a most productive insert grade.

* Industry sectors - aerospace - titanium is becoming more important as a material in the aerospace manufacturing process.

Utilising the latest tooling technology and application know-how, Sandvik Coromant will illustrate how to cope with a wide range of machining techniques.

* Automotive - in this sector, Coromant will highlight applications and tooling solutions for improved total production economy in machining cam and crankshafts, engine blocks and heads, transmission parts and other automotive components.

A mix of engineered and standard tool solutions will be spot lighted covering a range of work piece materials and components.

* Small part machining - in line with the growing demand for small precision-turned components Sandvik Coromant has developed tools to increase machine performance.

The latest are cutting tools for machining holes down to 0.3mm for precision machined, tiny components.

* Multi-task machining - together with the major machine tool builders in the world, Coromant has developed tools and concepts for making Multi-Task machine tools as effective as possible.

The machine concept as such requires a total new approach when designing tools.

* Research and Development - at the cornerstone of Sandvik Coromant's ongoing success is its investment in research and development with a committed programme of new product introductions and a strong customer focus.

In a typical year, Sandvik Coromant commits an annual research and development budget equivalent to 6% of its global sales.

Therefore, the 25,000 products in the Coromant range will be supplemented by over 2000 new additions in 2006.

In addition to the specialist sectors highlighted earlier, wider mechanical engineering sectors are major beneficiaries from this investment with productivity always the driving force.
