Round ceramic tooling inserts perform tough machining, profiling and pocketing in heat resistant super alloys and also reduce component burr and improve component quality.

New round inserts offer the perfect team for success in medium to roughing operations on heat resistant super alloys (HRSA) used mainly in the aerospace industry Machining productivity improves by increasing the feed rate

It is tough on applications with mild interrupted cuts and some instability.

The combination of a tough insert and small edge reinforcement reduces component burr and improves component quality.

Round inserts in grades CC6060 and CC6065 deliver the advantages of ceramic grades that are able to run at more than five times the speed of conventional carbide inserts; they extend the HRSA cutting tool range available from Sandvik Coromant.

CC6065 delivers secure, predictable results and is the ideal solution for high temperature alloy machining on good quality forgings with light scale or skin and some ovality.

It is suitable for pocketing and machining close into and up to shoulders or walls.

It provides an excellent alternative to whisker ceramics in intermediate stage machining and in existing machine programs.

CC6060 is optimised to deliver higher productivity when machining larger diameter components and longer length cuts.

With an excellent notch wear resistance, this grade provides the confidence to machine at higher depths of cut than other ceramic grades currently available and also copes with higher feed rates during longer continuous cuts.

CC6060 can cope with profiling and pocketing, rolling in and out of cuts, and is best with optimised programming techniques.

In these circumstances, it delivers an increased metal removal rate in long continuous cuts with a longer spiral cutting length capability than any other ceramic grades.

With applications covering profiling and pocketing operations, these complementary sialon based grades will successfully improve the machining of HRSA materials.

* About sialon - sialon is a ceramic made from a mixture of silicon nitride and aluminium oxide containing silicon, aluminium, oxygen, nitrogen; the combination offers the best chemical stability for resisting notch wear.
