Mill faces and shoulders to high surface
finish
The four edge insert design of facing and milling cutters produce high quality finish with minimum passes making them ideal for applications such as near net shape precision forgings and castings.
Sandvik Coromant has launched the first of a new generation of shoulder mills, the CoroMill 490, which reduces machining costs by up to 25% CoroMill 490 is a high-precision tool that enables the production of a very high quality finish with minimum passes making it ideal for applications such as near net shape precision forgings and castings where less, but more precise work is required

Cutting tool catalogue includes free methods CDs
A comprehensive catalogue of tools and methods for the die and mould making industry includes two free CDs - one containing a metal cutting data module to optimise cutting data.
The four edge insert design of CoroMill 490 substantially reduces the cost per component for customers, said Sandvik to manufacturingtalk.com.
Sandvik added that CoroMill 490 is the most effective tool for these types of applications.
It is so precise that it can produce a finished product in as little as one pass.
The maximum depth of cut is 5.5mm with 4mm the optimum recommended.
* Produrctivity gains - CoroMill 490 offers more productivity gains and its versatility allows customers to use it as their standard milling tool.
It replaces multiple tool stocks and simplifies production control.
The end result is lower costs for face and shoulder milling.
CoroMill 490 can also be used for contouring and edging, without mismatch, and for slot milling.
* Innovative insert geometry - cutting is light and quiet with low cutting forces on the four edge inserts.
This is achieved through high positive rake and axial angles for smooth entry to the material as well as an innovative insert geometry and new grades in the New Insert Generation of Sandvik Coromant.
The insert geometry includes new geometry of the parallel land, giving excellent face surfaces and shoulders.
The inserts have sharp edge lines and produce cuts with smooth, burr-free profiles, making the CoroMill 490 the first mill with a true 90 deg square shoulder cut without sharp steps and no discernable cusp on a smooth surface (cusp height is 0.03mm).
CoroMill 490 allows customers to use higher cutting data, starting values and greater productivity in their output.
CoroMill 490 is available for diameters of 25-80mm (25 - 125mm when completed), with Arbor, Coromant Capto, cylindrical and Weldon shanks; with L, M and H pitch and in both metric and inch configurations.
The cutter inserts are available in P-geometries and later in M and K.
