A styrene acrylic copolymer corrosion resistant primer is alkyl phenol ethoxylate free, and is possibly the first water-based primer to achieve a 500h salt spray resistance standard.

The Scott Bader Company has introduced a styrene acrylic copolymer designed for use in high performance anti-corrosion applications Called Texicryl 13-600, the product is alkyl phenol ethoxylate free

Scott Bader told manufacturingtalk.com that Texicryl 13-600 is possibly the first water-based primer of this type to achieve a 500h salt spray resistance standard.

The claim is based on a 50 micron single coat dry film thickness on steel when applied to clean, well prepared surfaces.

Texicryl resists discolouring in high humidity conditions, and being acrylic based, withstands higher temperatures than certain competitive chemistries.

The balanced flexibility helps to ensure good impact resistance and there is a high blister resistance to fuels, brake fluid and coolants.

With these qualities, Texicryl is particularly suited to automotive applications for underbody, transmission and engine bay components.

The standard smooth matt-black finish can also be overcoated if required for a wide range of general engineering applications.

Compatibility with industrial chemical and general atmospheric conditions also makes the product suitable for use on bridgebuilding and construction components as well as static engine and mobile plant accessories.

The water-borne properties and low solvent content of the product ensure ease of application with good performance, while maintaining both workplace and environment-friendly qualities.

Texicryl 13-600 is the subject of a patent application and can be supplied in drums, one tonne IBC's or delivered in bulk by road tanker.
