By its very nature, the pharmaceutical industry has of course to be ultra-careful with all issues of health and safety.

By its very nature, the pharmaceutical industry has of course to be ultra-careful with all issues of health and safety - and Perrigo's recent installation of Sara doors has reaped immediate and multiple benefits The impressive, modern facility near Barnstaple in Devon is now equipped with 16 of the Sara Sprint 355 series at key locations throughout the plant. There were several notable factors which impressed Perrigo and are particularly relevant to their situation

The doors are set in pairs airlocked 3000mm apart, and the clear safety curtain - with non contact safety beam - allows for people to see movement on either side _especially as regards the approach of forklift trucks.

Emergency access in the event of power failure is provided by two Bowden levers for each door.

Good Manufacturing Practice ( cGMP) in terms especially of thorough sealing is also a crucial matter, and in this context the Sara Sprint doors provide an air flow barrier to create both pressure controlled airlocks and provide contamination protection in several critical areas - whilst the ergonomic design facilitates easy cleaning, this is possible due to the doors' ability to withstand a constant positive pressure of 10 Pascals.

All of which significantly contributes to supporting Perrigo's position as the world's largest manufacture of Over - The- Counter ( OTC ) pharmaceutical and nutritional products for the own label market.

The company also develops, manufactures and markets prescription generic drugs, active pharmaceutical ingredients and consumer products.

Project manager Simon Orrell is very pleased with the Sara input.
