Ultrasonic sensors calculate flow rates
and volume
Loop powered ultrasonic level sensors use microprocessor control to internally perform liquid volume, flow, and totalization calculations.
Automation Products Group (APG) has introduced its LPU-2428 Loop Powered Ultrasonic Level Sensors with microprocessor control to internally perform volume, flow, and totalization calculations These IP65 rated sensors provide a 1 to 25ft (0.3 to 7.62m) detection range

Ultrasonic sensors enable high accuracy
Compact, self contained and easy-to-mount ultrasonic sensors provide a reliable method of detecting level, presence/absence, volume, proximity and distance measurements.
They are specifically designed for liquid flow-rate and volume measurement applications, and are also a good solution for determining distance and level.
Formulas for a variety of flumes and weirs are built into the sensors for determining flow rates.
These include Parshall flumes, cut-throat flumes, California-pipe weirs, rectangular weirs, and V-notch weirs.
Equation-based calculations are also possible.
LPU-2428 sensors provide an output directly proportional to the flow rate, and users can select flow rate units of per second, per minute, per hour, or per day.
Standard volume units include ft3, millions ft3, gallons, m3, or litres.
For volume measurement, the sensors have built-in formulas for most industry-standard tank shapes.
LPU-2428 sensors feature a rugged PVDF (Kynar) transducer housing and PC/PET chemical resistant sensor housing, and are easy to install using industry standard 2in NPT fittings.
These sensors can operate in temperatures from -40 to +140 deg F (-40 to +60 deg C) and deliver 0.1in (2.5mm) resolution with accuracy of +/-0.25% of the detected range, and response time of 0.6 to 3s depending on the output range.
The LPU-2428 features internal temperature compensation to automatically account for changes in ambient temperature, as well as filtering options to account for other variables such as waves on a liquid or tank irregularities.
They are unaffected by the color/translucency, dielectric constant, specific gravity or viscosity of the target.
Internal parameters are setup using a remote keypad and display unit.
* About Automation Products Group - Automation Products Group (APG) was originally a division of Scientific Technologies Incorporated (STI).
In September 2006 Omron Corporation acquired the safety products business of STI, and APG was formed and purchased by the family that founded STI.
Although a new company, APG's roots in the sensor business go back to 1971.
Located in Logan, UT, APG supplies tailored sensing solutions for measurement applications to process control industries.
