Photoelectric switches now in
cylindrical housings
The V18 family of photoelectric switches now comes in round M18 housings, borrowed from the proximity switch where they form the standard housing

Bridging the optical and photoelectric sensor gap
Erwin Sick's compact DS 60 distance sensors bridge the technological gap between photoelectric switches and optical distance measurement devices.
Photoelectric switches offer huge ranges
The newly developed W140 from Erwin Sick is a complete family of photoelectric switches in miniature housings offering, above all, giant ranges.
What customers require of photoelectric switches in this housing design differs considerably.
While some want to reduce the size of the variants to a minimum; by using programmable switching outputs, others require integrated features without options for adaptation, so that the sensors can be mounted and maintained as plug and play systems either for reasons of simplicity or to prevent the risk of manipulation.
Supplementary device options such as a variety of housing materials, sensitivity potentiometer yes/no, light/dark switching, or integrated 90° rotation, unavoidably lead to increased costs.

Increased range on redesigned proximity sensor
The redesigned IQ 12 inductive proximity sensor has a switching distance of 3mm when installed flush and 6mm when raised; also, the connection plug is located on the sloping rear of the housing
Rehoused photoelectric switches suit more uses
Redesigned photoelectric switches are rehoused in cylindrical M12 housings and offer users a quality, low cost solution suitable for a wide range of applications.
Light curtains fit every machine safety need
Light curtains offer a clear choice between simple machine guarding and more advanced systems combining complex blanking and control functions with safety bus compatibility.
These options are a must for some customers whereas low-cost sensors are the main priority for others.
Improved production technologies and new components offer new opportunities that Sick has made use of in order to be able to meet customers' requirements in round M18 photoelectric switch housings.
Apart from long ranges, modular options for alternative features, implemented on the building block principle, were a major consideration during development.
Further transparency has been achieved by presenting V18 as two sub-groups.
The V18-3 series, 3-wire design These are all 3-wire designs.
Light/dark switching mode is a fixed feature.
V18-3 are the ideal partner for all island technologies.
The V18-3 interface is the right one, whether M12 plug distributor or distributor for Bus technologies: plug and play.
The V18-4 series, 4-wire design These are all 4-wire designs.
Switching mode is programmed using the fourth wire - the control cable.
V18-4 are the ideal partners when flexibility is essential in the planning and commissioning phases.
The number of variants is reduced by half.
Important for disposition, acquisition and storage.
Modular supplementary V18 options provide the customer with photoelectric switches that exactly correspond to their specific requirements.
The following options are available: M12 device plug connection or cable 10 - 30 V DC power supply, with either PNP or NPN switching output; Metal or plastic housings; Sensitivity potentiometer; Integrated 90° rotation.
The V18 series offers all the optical variants, trimmed for range.
VS/VE18 through-beam photoelectric switch: max.
operating range 20 m.
VL18 photoelectric reflex switches: max.
operating range 3.7 m; reflector surface diameter 80 mm, with polarising filter for trouble-free detection of highly reflective objects.
VT18 photoelectric proximity switch: two optics variants form the basis for optimal system sensitivity.
VTE18 photoelectric proximity switch with "energetic" system for a wide range of standard applications.
Three types have been optimised to meet specific range requirements: 200 mm, 400 mm or 800 mm.
VTF18 photoelectric proximity switch with focused optics.
Otherwise interfering reflections, even from near backgrounds, are largely ignored by these types - preventing erroneous switching.
Two types have been optimised to meet specific range requirements: 50 mm or 100 mm.
The optimised ranges, and the price, make this V18 family of photoelectric switches highly suitable for a wide variety of application fields across a range of branches.
It is bound to be of particular interest for storage and conveyor technology, the packaging industry, the clay, stone and ceramics industries, door and gate technology, and the timber processing industry.
