Plastics materials handling system uses a central silo feed to serve injection moulding machines machines via masterbatch dosers that colour the material at the moulders.

Sandretto UK, leading supplier of injection moulding machinery, has sold a plastics materials handling system to trade moulder KMS The bespoke system uses a central silo feed to KMS's moulding machines via masterbatch dosers that colour the material at the moulding press

The new KMS equipment will vacuum convey a variety of PVC and polypropylene materials to four different Sandretto moulding machines at the company.

KMS plans to roll out the system to eight further moulding machines in the coming months.

Chris Whitlam of Sandretto UK believes that Sandretto UK's leading edge in machine support and service - together with knowledge of materials and the moulding process - has helped the Rugby-based company to obtain an increasing number of materials handling orders.

'Where moulders have confidence in their moulding press supplier, the one-stop-shop approach to adding pieces of equipment is made much easier for them - and a natural extension of business for us,' he says.

The Sandretto UK materials handling system supplied to KMS includes: * Touch screen control, with easy-to-use simple graphics that visualise the operation of the system.

* Central materials drying facilities.

* Automatic purging of materials feed lines on changeovers.

* Up to 15 Hopper loaders per module.

* Silo operation up to 10 metres from moulding machines.

* Remote control operation possible via touch screen pendant from an office environment.

Each hopper supplied is of 11 litre capacity and constructed from stainless steel.

Each hopper loader is prepared to accept a proportioning valve to introduce regrind.

The system is powered by an 11kW vacuum pump and is linked together with a single 5 core non-screened cable.

Whitlam believes that most plastics processors are looking to get value from certain common elements in a materials handling package: 'Silo storage, for example, enables you to make regular savings on bulk purchasing and also save valuable floor space at the same time.

Reduced material losses from spillages are beneficial, as are the reductions in possible materials contamination.

Our materials handling package also makes for easier management of stocks; safer working practices and greater labour efficiency.'.
