Repeatability, reliability settle moulder choice
To cope with increased deamnd for automotive injection mouldings, a subcontractor has purchased a machine on the basis of its repeatability, precision and reliability.
Established for less than three years, Bourne Technical Mouldings (BTM) is racing ahead of many more established mould shops in and beyond the West Midlands region.
The company's latest acquisition, a Nove T injection mould unit from Sandretto, has been purchased with help of a 20% grant from Accelerate West Midlands, to satisfy sky-rocketing customer demand.
Managing director, Mark Bourne explains, "We are absolutely delighted with the way the business has taken off.
We are now operating a full-time night shift and have had to take on additional staff to satisfy demand.
The company has tripled production since its formation just two and a half years ago.
BTM is now firmly established as a full blown production moulding shop, supplying specialist plastic components for the automotive market, with particular expertise in providing mouldings that require a secondary finish e.g aluminising, chrome plating and painting.
For such demanding applications, only the best mouldings will do, so Sandretto was a natural choice of supplier, the Nove T series machines having been developed specifically to give users a "competitive advantage" in terms of repeatability, precision and reliability.
In injection moulding for automotive, part quality is all important, and achieving those optimum results depends on using the best equipment, and knowing how to get the most out of it, throughout the entire production cycle.
To support its strategy of purchasing first class equipment the company is also training its staff through the Investors in People and Accelerate programmes.
In addition, BTM is also working towards achieving the new ISO/TS 16949 quality management accreditation standard, which has been specifically produced for automotive suppliers.
Mark believes that this new standard, which has been produced through a unique collaboration of major vehicle manufacturers from around the world, represents a great opportunity for UK suppliers, as he says, "for the first time, we have a requirements specification that can be satisfied by compliance based on a single standard - this is a huge step forward for the industry.
These techniques and procedures not only result in better products for our customers, but also provide a sound basis for quality management for all the processes in the business.
And for a company that is growing as fast as we are - the security of having good processes in place is paramount.
