Sensor Products has announced Pressurex, a tactile pressure-indicating sensor film that helps assure quality in food and drug packaging.

In marketing food, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics, packaging is just as important as the product, especially in delivering fresh, effective flavours and drugs Sensor Products has announced Pressurex, a tactile pressure-indicating sensor film that helps manufacturers in R and D, design, and quality control/quality assurance to monitor and guarantee consistent package integrity

Pressurex film allows for rapid and easy determination of compression magnitude and distribution between any two mating or contacting surfaces.

It is virtually indispensable for manufacturing process control and machine/component inspection.

Pressurex also aids in quality control for applications such as validation and calibration of sealing die pressure during drug packaging, and helps fulfill GMP compliance by revealing weak spots, channels and wrinkles at the sealing surface.

The film is also widely used to verify and record pressure distribution during equipment set-up, preventive maintenance and product changeover for various form-fill-seal, deposit-fill-seal and CAP/MAP systems.

By assessing these pressures, engineers can be assured of even and perfectly aligned seals and proper registration, which ultimately results in a higher yield and longer sealing die life.

Pressurex film measures pressure from 2 - 43,000 PSI (0.14 - 3,000 kg/cm2 ).

When placed between two contacting surfaces, the film instantaneously and permanently changes colour.

This colour change is directly proportional to the actual pressure applied.

Precise pressure magnitude is easily determined by comparing the resultant colour intensity to a colour correlation chart (conceptually similar to interpreting Litmus paper).

No training or instrumentation is required.

More companies are utilising this diagnostic tool and are finding new ways to use it daily.

Sensor Products 's food and pharmaceutical clients include: Baxter Healthcare , BF Cardinal Health, CIBA Vision, Colgate, Delphi, DuPont, Frito-Lay, Folgers, Fresh Express, GE Medical Systems, General Mills, Gerber, Kimberly-Clark, Merck and Co, Milliken Packaging, Nestle, Siemens Medical, Tyco Healthcare, Wrigley, and many more.

The film comes in the form of a thin Mylar sheet, physically similar in thickness to paper, that conforms to curvaceous surfaces and invasive intolerant environments.
