Buy a CNC machine tool and get DNC free
At MACH 2004, a control systems software provider is offering free DNC software and installation to any purchaser of a new CNC machine tool at the show and during March 1 - August 31.
Seiki Systems, through 'Production Engineering Solutions' magazine, has set-up an exclusive offer whereby any UK-based manufacturing company that orders a new CNC machine tool will have the chance to maximise the productivity of its purchase through distributed numerical control (DNC) software supplied and installed for free by the UK developer, Seiki Systems of Brighton The deal involving the DNC system is not an abridged version with a limited use restriction, it is fully functional and could be worth up to GBP 6,000 per installation according to the package chosen

Machine monitoring repays many times over
For Colin Smith at HPC Engineering, a relatively modest investment in a Seiki Systems machine monitoring system, for 46 CNC machine tools, has been repaid many times over.
Valid between 1 March and 31 August 2004, it is also open to any CNC machine tool ordered at the MACH 2004 exhibition at the NEC where Seiki Systems has a stand (5565).
Included in the offer which applies to one machine per company, is the supply of the selected software package, DNC installation, on-site training during the installation and a full support contract for three months.
Says Seiki Systems general manager David Trowell: "This is a genuine offer that enables users of CNC machine tools to select a system that is best suited to improving productivity and gaining the maximum advantage from their machine tool investment." With this offer, the machine tool user is able to choose from a simple NC program transfer package right through to an advanced quality level DNC module incorporated within the Seiki Systems networked manufacturing system.

Wireless DNC avoids cabling, adds flexibility
A totally independent method of communicating between the control systems of CNC machine tools and a centralised remote PC has been developed for distribution and control of machining programs.
Software ensures program control and traceability
Software enables strict control and traceability of computer programs transferred to CNC machine tools and processing equipment, thus assuring users full compliance with quality standards.
Software gives dynamic real time production status
Software packages that give a dynamic live display of production status provide CNC machine tools users with total control and awareness in 'real time' of what is happening on the shopfloor.
As the offer includes the system master software licence, together with DNC installation to the first machine this eliminates any concerns over the need for financial justification and outlay.
This provides an additional benefit that for a low cost, the selected system can easily be extended to link in other machines or to switch-on, additional functionality that is already built into the software package.
For example, explains Trowell: "The top level module of the manufacturing system on offer can be easily configured to further improve productivity through machine monitoring, remote information and alarms.
In addition, graphical work planning with job queue management and a module that enables tooling to be optimised can also be easily integrated." Seiki Systems has constantly been at the forefront of manufacturing software technology, including paperless manufacturing, shopfloor data management and 'real time' communications with events on the shopfloor.
Configurable to user requirements, its software is able to support round-the-clock manufacturing demands in a wired or wireless environment.
So far more than 4,500 CNC machine tools have been connected at 280 user sites in the UK.
As an example of the success achieved by one of the users, Integrated Hydraulics of Warwick, it has been able to improve production efficiency to a recorded 72 per cent.
It has also adopted a paperless environment and ensured a secure, traceable and efficient NC program transfer combined with tooling and fixture information for its six CNC machining centres.
