In the UK, the company was formed in 1996 through the acquisition of Security Express Armaguard and now holds a leading position in the UK security market.
Accurate weighing plays a crucial part in the movement of money both to and from the coin centres.
Through the service contract, Stevens have been in the ideal position to advise Securitas how their weighing equipment and systems can be improved and further integrated into their overall management systems.
As a result, the company has also been instrumental in the implementation of an ongoing upgrade program, involving the controlled replacement of scales, instrumentation and software.
The floor scales are used to weigh cages of bagged coins and provide accurate data for the shipment manifest.
To improve their functionality, Stevens are progressively upgrading the scales with their powerful 2220 weight terminal and special software, specifically written for bulk coin checking.
The 2220 offers a number of security and operational benefits, and is programmed to verify the contents of cages containing bags of single or mixed denomination coins.
The unit features two separate weight displays which simultaneously show gross, net, tare and nominal weight data.
The full QWERTY keypad can be used to enter management data and operator manifest information which can then be viewed on the large four-line, 40 character LCD.
Up to 50 different denominations can be pre-programmed including the name, value and weight per standard bag.
The system has the capability to accept or reject consignments by comparing the target weight of the manifest against the actual net weight, using management controlled tolerances.
The three-copy NCR printout provides irrefutable details of the cage manifest and operator ID, while additional security checks come from the bar code scanning of the cage security seal.
Securitas Cash Management's National Coin Operations Manager Tony McNamara knows only too well that his customers have the highest expectations from his company: "We have to balance operational speed and efficiency against maintaining the highest security and accuracy".
" Knowing that we have a single point of contact for service and repair ensures we can focus on our business without worrying about breakdowns".
" Stevens' personnel have taken the time to listen and understand our business".
" We are now seeing clear benefits at the sites where the 2220 terminals have been installed".
" The new systems minimise the risk of errors and significantly reduce the manual handling of coin bags".
" The security checks definitely improve customer confidence and we have improved data collection and traceability.".
