High speed ring balancer optimises
performance

A high speed ring balancer system that helps users to maximise the productivity of their machining centres, lathes and grinders, makes continuous adjustments while the machine spindle runs.

A high speed ring balancer system that helps users to maximise the productivity of their machining centres, lathes and grinding equipment is the latest addition to Schmitt Europe's range of dynamic balancing solutions Providing balancing to ISO 1940 G1 standards, the new system makes continuous adjustments while the machine tool spindle rotates at full operating speed - to ensure optimum machining performance and component surface finish

Further benefits include improved dimensional control and extended tool life, as well as reduced machine downtime and maintenance costs.

At the heart of the new ring balancer is a patented counterweight rotor, which mounts on the spindle shaft, and a coil assembly that simply attaches to the machine's spindle housing.

In operation, electro-magnetic pulses from the coil unit signal the rotors to adjust to the required position to counter out-of-balance forces.

As a result, entire spindle assemblies can be re-balanced in seconds after each tool change.

The new system also enables machine vibration to be monitored throughout cutting cycles and production automatically suspended if pre-determined limits are exceeded.

Schmitt's proven SB-4500 control unit provides an intuitive touch screen display for simple and reliable operation of all system functions.

It also features a modular design that allows the addition of plug-in PCB cards for controlling other Schmitt balancing or Acoustic Emission Monitoring Systems (AEMS).

In addition, the unit will easily interface with machine tool controllers via a PLC I/O or RS 232 serial port.

About Schmitt Europe - based at the University of Warwick Science Park, Schmitt Europe offers balancing and vibration control solutions that harness precision as the key to manufacturing productivity.

The company's automatic grinding wheel balancing systems dramatically improve surface finish and wheel life, while its Acoustic Emission Monitoring equipment provides precise control of grinding, wheel dressing and other metal cutting operations.

Schmitt also offers high accuracy, vertical or horizontal axis component balancing machines, as well as numerous laser measuring, alignment and surface texture inspection systems. Request a free brochure from Schmitt Europe ...
