Edited by the Manufacturingtalk Editorial Team on 05 February 2008

Robots use 3D vision to locate and pick
parts

To avoid having to use manual workers to unpack incoming loads of products, a 3D machine vision system gives robots the ability to pick from parts randomly deposited in a container.

Vision-guided robots can now locate and pick individual parts from a mixture of parts piled haphazardly in a picking container To do this, Scorpion Vision Software offers a 3D add-on machine vision module to enable robots to carry out random bin picking

The module combines the action of a number of cameras for stereo vision and 3D modelling.

Scorpion Vision said that the module will bring significant savings for manufacturers as it will not be necessary to use manual workers to unpack incoming loads.
