Hydraulic bender speeds up profile
production
CNC hydraulic 6000mm bending machine can store up to 100 different profiles, which the operator can easily select and so offer customers fast turnarounds on steel profiles.
Salford based J.W Entwhistle Co is probably the oldest manufacturing Company in the Manchester area and is a long time user of Jorns Bending Machines from Switzerland, which they have operated for over 20 years to make roofing and building products

Coil feeder NC system eliminates feeding loop
An exciting concept in flexible, NC, high speed coil feeding eliminates the need for any feeding loop from the coil so that the feeding line is only 4m long.
The Company has been in existence since the late 19th century and is to-day still located on the exact same sight.
Since they were founded, their business has changed considerably, because in the beginning they were not only manufacturing steel mesh products for local industry, they were also involved in sealing embalmed bodies into steel coffins for shipping to the far corners of the Empire.
As Chris Dunkley, Entwhistle's Manager said: "At the time HM Customs and Excise were closely involved and oversaw the sealing of every coffin.

Fastener insertion system has variable force
Shear-Form Machine Tools has launched the Haeger '412' manual, low cost fastener insertion system with interchangeable tooling and can be upgraded for automatic feeding.
I am not sure how long we were involved in this business, but it bears no relation to to-days business.
We are short run fabricators of industrial flashing, specialising in obsolete profiles, which we supply not only locally but throughout the UK.
These obsolete profiles are found on buildings erected a few years back and for which the profiles are generally no longer available, having been superseded by newer designs.
For example we recently supplied a few profiles to replace worn or damaged cladding on one of the stands at Manchester United Football Club." Entwhistle has had so few problems with their Jorns machines over the years, but they knew that new controls and faster operating speeds of the latest machines would help them with their productivity levels.
They turned to Shear-Form Machine Tools, the Coventry based sheet metal and plate working machinery supplier and Jorns's sole representative in the United Kingdom.
With Shear-Form's expert advice and help, they decided to invest in a 'Norma' CNC hydraulic 6000mm bending machine, which has a 1000mm insertion depth.
It was supplied with a Type 91 back stop, which has a continuous stop support in a honeycombed profile.
It has a =/-0.1mm measuring accuracy over a measuring range of 25-1000mm.
The 4 stop fingers have side shifting, tilting heads and a hardened stop edge, driven by an AC servo motor with integrated resolver.
It can bend 42kg/mm2 steel up to 1.25mm thick, 22kgs/mm2 aluminium up to 2.0mm thick and Inox V2A stainless steel up to 0.8mm thick.
The CNC400 control mounted on a swivel arm on the right hand side of the machine is designed for 4 axis with 99 programs each comprising eight program steps and 50 long programs each with 40 program steps in a permanent memory.
The actual value back gauge, bending cheek and upper jaw as well as the 8 program step are clearly shown on a 120mm x 65mm LCD screen.
The operator has the ability to select the pre-programmed back gauge, bending angle, bending angle correction, clamping pressure and upper jaw opening width.
A control light on the panel tells the operator when he has to turn or rotate the sheet he is working with.
Dunkley continued: "The oldest of our Jorns machines was over 20 years old and it was starting to cost us money, it was a 6000mm machine and the accuracy was no longer there and to change profiles meant that downtime was far too long.
With the new machine, we have found that the CNC control is excellent; we can store up to 100 different profiles, which the operator can easily select the one he wants.
This is important because our customers demand quick turnarounds, sometimes as little as 30 minutes.
We can now always meet this demand.
Product quality is improved and of course we get fewer rejects.
For our customers this is excellent, because they know that they can rely on us providing them with the profile they require on time.".
