Anglo-French fast testing for PET bottles
Sidel, the French PET bottle manufacturer, and Systech Instruments, the British gas analysis specialist, have developed Systech Model 8700, a quick method of oxygen transmission rate analysis.
The standard instrument can test up to eleven items at the same time with each test station being individually selected and controlled.
The control software runs on any Windows platform and is intuitive and simple to operate making the need for training minimal.
Typically, results, even for barrier coated PET bottles, are delivered in less than twelve hours, rather than the three to four days taken by previously available testers.
The key to the new tester is the combination of fast purge technology and precise flow control of each test station.
The Systech coulometric sensor provides reliable and precise measurements from an exceptional low of 0.00004 cc/pack/day to 200 cc/pack/day with a repeatability of better than +/- 0.02% O2.
To ensure low operating costs, no special gases are required, only industrial grade nitrogen.
The QuickStart control software uses stored testing configurations minimising the risk of operator error.
The simple, clear graphical display allows the progress of calibration and baseline routines to be easily monitored providing total confidence in the accuracy of the results.
Throughout the test, progress is displayed automatically in real time.
The new Systech Model 8700 brings fast and accurate oxygen permeation analysis to a wide range of closed containers ranging from coated and uncoated PET bottles, food pouches, cereal packages and similar plastics containers.
