Modular safety relays avoid redundancies
A new generation of multifunction safety relay modules offer different levels of functionality to allow allow machine builders and plant engineers to specify the perfect relay for an application.
Schmersal (UK), specialist in man-machine safety systems, has introduced 'PROTECT SRB', a new generation of multifunction safety relay modules that offer different levels of functionality to allow machine builders and plant engineers to specify the perfect relay for an application without paying for unwanted and unnecessary functions All modules in the new PROTECT SRB range feature circuitry that complies with control category 4 to EN954-1; 'hybrid' fuses that enable functionality to be restored following a short circuit without accessing the hardware; a new housing design featuring plug in terminals; 'stab' type unit-to-unit contacts to allow looping through supply voltage between adjacent units; and the ability to operate in high temperatures

Specialist manufacturer of safety equipment is offering an AS-i safety monitor that allows a wide range of safety components to connect to the AS-i Safety at Work fieldbus system.
Manual covers all solenoid door locking aspects
Machine safety specialist is offering engineers a comprehensive manual covering all aspects of solenoid door locking, including safety standards, typical applications and equipment.
The SRB is suitable for all applications including safety switches, solenoid safety switches, position switches with safety functions, pull wire emergency switches, two-hand operating panels, hinged safety switches, safety laser scanners, magnetic safety sensors, safety light grids and emergency stop pushbuttons.
The basic model in the PROTECT SRB 'Family' meets 80% of all applications and is the most cost efficient.
It is suitable for emergency stop control devices, interlocking devices and P-switching semiconductor outputs and features a 22.5mm wide housing, one or two channels, three safety enabling outputs and LED status annunciation of internal relays.
A similar model is available with plug-in terminals.
The functionality options offered by the other models include suitability for a normally open and a normally closed 2-channel input; a version for two-handed controls; a multi-output module emitting an 8bit word that can be connected to a PLC with a programmed truth table enabling the status of the safety control system to be exactly determined; a version with delay enabling contacts for Category 1 Stop requirements; and a time delay module.
Terry Hayward, managing director of Schmersal UK, says the seven-model range is expected to expand quickly, with the launch of a power version imminent.
