Non-contact solenoid interlock uses pulse echo sensor technology, which allows the actuator and interlock to engage even with an offset of +/-5mm, so avoiding uncessary machine downtime.

A solenoid interlock (interlock switch with guard locking) should provide accurate alignment of actuator and device when newly installed, but during a lifetime of use actuator and device can become misaligned, causing damage to both components and leading to machine downtime and repair costs The new AZM 200 non-contact solenoid interlock from Schmersal Safety Systems eliminates this problem using the company's newly developed pulse echo sensor technology, which allows the actuator and interlock to engage even with an offset of +/-5mm

This simplifies mounting and reduces the need for regular maintenance and adjustment of the safety guard.

By increasing machine availability through the use of integrated electronics, the AZM 200 also reinforces Schmersal's commitment to producing safety products that not only meet appropriate regulations but also increase the efficiency of machines and processes.

The new interlock is designed to increase machine uptime using innovative diagnostics to provide rapid trouble-shooting.

In practice this means that a fault does not automatically lead to the machine shutting off immediately.

Instead, the fault is first signaled so that machine shut down can be progressive and controlled.

The AZM 200's slim, symmetrical design is ideal for installations using 40-45mm aluminium profiles and is also available with an integrated door handle for machine and perimeter guarding applications.

Up to sixteen AZM 200 solenoid interlocks can be 'daisy-chained' together over a distance of up to 200m, and can also be wired in series with Schmersal's CSS 180 sensor.

Control Category 4 is achieved whether an installation uses one or a series of AZM 200s, which eliminates the need for additional switches and also reduces wiring and the number of control modules required.

The new unit was specifically designed and certified to IEC 61 508 and is suitable for applications up to SIL 3.

This is achieved using high reliability components and a high resistance to electromagnetic interference.

An optional internally mounted exit handle can be specified to ensure that operators can leave hazardous areas quickly and safely, even during a power failure - a feature that Schmersal claims is unique.
