Non-contact safety sensor has no
mechanical wear
A non-contact safety sensor that monitors the position of two sliding, hinged or removable safety guards means there is no mechanical wear and its closed housing suits hygienic applications.
Following the successful launch of its non-contact BNS/AES door guard system, machine safety specialist Schmersal has introduced the BNS 16 LR, a non-contact safety sensor that monitors the position of two sliding, hinged or removable safety guards The non-contact design of the BNS 16 LR means there is no mechanical wear to reduce product life; and its closed housing and insensitivity to soiling makes it ideal for hygienic applications or where high switching frequencies are required

Connecting up safety components to fieldbus
Specialist manufacturer of safety equipment is offering an AS-i safety monitor that allows a wide range of safety components to connect to the AS-i Safety at Work fieldbus system.
Commenting on its operation, managing director Terry Hayward explains that for an enabling signal to be given, the active zones on each side of the safety sensor must be actuated by the BPS 16 coded magnetic actuators, which can be flexibly installed to safety guards regardless of local conditions.
The BNS 16 LR is IP67-rated and, when used with an appropriate safety-monitoring module such as Schmersal's SRB/AES range, will achieve Control category 4/PDF-M.
The safety sensor is suitable for concealed mounting under non-magnetic materials.
Working surfaces and storage areas can be arranged without the need for dust-collecting edges or other cutouts or projections.
