Schmersal is to supply a total of 150 of its AZM415 double solenoid locking switches to Industrial and Marine Lift Services, for the refurbishment of double-gate lifting systems for two MOD ships.

Schmersal, specialists in man-machine safety systems, has won an order to supply a total of 150 of its AZM415 double solenoid locking switches to Industrial and Marine Lift Services (IMLS), for the refurbishment of double-gate lifting systems for two Ministry of Defence supply ships The order is to be completed in four stages, the first of which has already seen Schmersal supply thirty six units

The double-gate lifts are very large, long lifts used to move supplies around the ship from one deck to another.

Solenoid locking switches are used as there isn't the space in the lift area to activate the locks in the normal way.

Explaining the reasons for specifying Schmersal's double solenoid locking switches, Mike Millen, IMLS's managing director says: "We needed a switch with the usual lock contacts as well as a positive lock and a solenoid device that could un-latch the gate.

The switch also needed to be small enough and slim enough for use in the restricted space and Schmersal's AZM was the only one that could do the job." Commenting for Schmersal, managing director Terry Hayward says: "This application demonstrates that with such a wide and innovative range, you can find a Schmersal switch to suit virtually any application." IMLS has been servicing the marine lift and escalator industry for over ten years, with clients including Cunard QE2, P and O Stena, Princess Cruises and Royal Fleet Auxiliary ships for the Ministry of Defence (MOD).
