Some 90 per cent of the work will be for the supply of drives for new applications while the remaining 10 per cent will involve replacing existing drives for improved efficiency.
Comments John Williamson, Technical Manager Process Design Group at United Utilities: "This contract represents the best value for money from the competitive tendering process.
In addition Schneider Electric has been extremely helpful in meeting our requirements." The majority of the drives will be used for a wide variety of pump applications although some fan applications are also included in the programme.
United Utilities has 374 major and about 250 minor works projects to carry out over the next three years.
Schneider Electric will provide both chassis-mounted and free-standing drives in a range of sizes although all free-standing drives will be in excess of 110kW.
All applications will be checked to ensure compliance with G5/4 harmonic requirements.
United Utilities has a number of options available for its Altivar drives including input and output line inductors, RFI filters, motor inductors and an HMI keypad.
Drives will be modified as needed for individual applications with programming and advanced control provided by local PLCs.
Notes Williamson: "Schneider Electric and United Utilities have worked hard to produce the best from the standard drive with the minimal modifications to ensure compliance with our requirements." The contract also covers pre-sales technical advice and post-installation maintenance.
Training is also available for the 40 field service engineers employed by United Utilities.
