Vacuum technology in a totally enclosed liquid ring pump is proving an enormous success, particularly with the brick manufacturers.

New vacuum technology from Elmo is proving an enormous success, particularly with the brick manufacturers The 2BLTotally Enclosed Liquid Ring Pump avoids the shortcomings of traditional vacuum pumps where rotary vane and liquid ring systems have significant disadvantages

The operating costs of rotary vane pumps are high due to the heavy demand for maintenance and replacement parts, and although liquid ring pumps need less attention they consume large quantities of water, incurring supply and disposal charges.

With the 2BL, Siemens Elmo has produced a liquid ring pump with 100% water recycle and, for the first time, it is now possible to avoid the disadvantages of rotary vane units and the cost drawbacks of heavy water use.

In a recent application at the Cannock works of Ibstock, one of the UK's largest brick manufacturers, the introduction of Siemens Elmo vacuum pumps delivered a direct saving of almost GBP 10,000 per unit, equivalent to a payback time of less than seven months.

In brick manufacture, vacuum systems are a key element in quality control as they remove air pockets, from the clay, which damages the integrity of a brick.

The Siemens Elmo 2BL unit is entirely self-contained and easy to move, flexibility much appreciated by managers in multi-location industries where processes are heavily dependant on the reliability of individual units.
