Typical applications will range from burner control to the control of presses and papermaking machinery.
With the addition of the CPU 317F-2 DP to its 151F, 315F and 416F fail-safe controllers, Siemens believes that it now offers the most comprehensive range of fail-safe controllers on the market.
Considering the ease with which a Profisafe fail-safe fieldbus can be implemented - especially if a Profibus network is already in place - the programmable control of safety functions has never been more attractive.
Alongside the CPU 317F-2 DP fail-safe controller, Siemens is also launching the CPU 317-2 DP that is similar but without the fail-safe capability.
Other models feature alternative focused functionality, such as the CPU 317-2 PN/DP that benefits from an Ethernet/Profinet interface in place of the combination DP/MPI interface of the 317-2 DP, and the CPU 317T-2 DP that can be used for both automation and motion control.
