The Siplace team won in the 'Software' category because of its many innovative developments in this field for electronics manufacturing.

In addition to Siemens, many other well-known companies competed for the first Global Technology Award.

Trevor Galbraith, editor-in-chief of Global SMT and Packaging Magazine, summarised: "We are not allowed to divulge the exact number of entries, but I can certainly state it significantly exceeded our expectations." Siemens has once more confirmed its innovation leadership in winning this competition with its general Siplace software concept, and its solutions in the areas of product data definition, line monitoring and control, process control, as well as material and production management.

Viktor Woelk, head of global sales Siemens EA, was excited about the success: "We are proud that the intensive development work we put into all our products is paying off and that independent experts confirmed with this award that we are moving in the right direction." The participating companies were judged by an independent panel of Chinese, European and American experts.

The evaluation criteria included the companies' ability to meet industrial challenges and apply existing solutions creatively.

They also looked at overall quality, economic efficiency and consistent performance.

"We are delighted to have won this award in the software category," offered Vic Mason, sales manager for UK and Ireland.

"Software is a vital element in today's manufacturing environment, eliminating downtime, optimising the entire line and offering complete traceability through the process.

Our software platform is well received, globally, and this award is yet another indicator of SIPLACE's innovation and leadership in electronics manufacturing." * Global technology Award - participating companies for the Global Technology Award had to describe one of their products or services in one of a total of 20 different categories.

The focus was on innovation, cost efficiency, speed, improvement capacity and quality.
