Twenty four grinding machines displayed at EMO
At the EMO 2005 the Schleifring Group exhibited 24 grinding machines including a Studer single-pur-pose centre grinding machine for grinding chamfers and full angles on carbide metal blanks.
Compact grinding centre drills and mills too
Compact grinding center designed especially for the complete machining of relatively small parts features an automatic tool and wheel changer and can be used for drilling and milling tasks.
* Why? We recognised that the technology that had been used up till then did not adequately meet all the process stability requirements.
* What must your technology partner achieve? He must apply a simple, robust machine design for a process that is qualitatively stable and ideally tried and tested - a design that offers both the possibility of process expansion and continued use.
* What were the difficulties that had to be surmounted? From a management point of view there was the very tight timetable.
Then there were big organisational changes at Schaudt in Berlin.
Regarding the technology, the clamp design was very ambitious and had to cope with a broad range of products in different weight classes without resetting.
* How was the cooperation with Schaudt during and after the project? We had very intense contact during all phases of the process development and project implementation.
We are continuing this dialogue in a working party.
We are focused on a long-term partnership.
* What range of products is produced on the Stratos? It is used for finishing our pump cases, with a wide variety of models and a medium batch size.
The process is integrated in our line-oriented process flow with a low level of automation.
The partial stages of receiving, clamping and transporting the workpiece within the working area are carried out by the workpiece clamp or spindle.
This is where the design benefits really make themselves felt.
* You have recently bought another new Stratos - what are your special requirements? The priority is a capable and robust process that is quick to adjust even when switching between models and after fairly long idle periods.
* How was the cooperation with Schaudt? Initially, with the new process being brought in at the same time at several sites in different countries, there were difficulties getting on-site service in good time.
The situation is now stable and the service good.
