New pack style gives a strong marketing pull

A Sigpack Systems product story
Edited by the Manufacturingtalk editorial team Feb 19, 2007

The innovative, double award winning Pull Pack concept from Sigpack Systems offers a new level of convenience to flow wrapped foods.

Foods such as chocolate and cereal bars have long been packaged using flow wrapping technology.

Gone are the days of expensive, inconvenient foil and paper packaged goods with low shelf lives.

Flow wrapping has introduced to the manufacturer increased output and reduced material and labour costs, extended shelf life to the retailer and high quality presentation and ease of use to the consumer.

To extend the convenience aspect of this packaging style, Sigpack Systems has developed the Pull Pack, which presents the consumer with a quicker, cleaner and simpler experience.

Simple to open In contrast to the opening aids in regular use such as tear tape, perforations, zig-zag cuts etc., the Pull Pack can be opened easily and in a controlled manner.

The product is held in one hand and a simple tug on the seal fin of the shorter other end opens the pack.

For consumers on the go, the top of the pack can be bitten off.

Hygiene is preserved, as the product does not have to be touched and remains covered with the remaining half of the pack.

New Marketing Possibilities The controlled opening of the pack, and the clearly defined pull-off section of the packaging, opens up a raft of possibilities for marketing.

For example, the pull-off section could be used as a collectable token for promotions and competitions.

Co-sponsoring for advertising events, products and brands is also simplified.

This provides opportunities for manufacturers to easily take advantage of proven means of repositioning brands and raising sales.

Improved pack style Although a unique take on the flow wrap pack, Pull Pack is not an entirely new style of packaging.

Rather, this opening mechanism is an innovative development of an existing, widely used and well-established packaging method.

As such, Pull Pack requires no new process and limited new machinery.

All Pull Pack necessitates is one additional module for existing flow wrapping machines.

Award winning innovation The German Packaging Institute , Berlin, recently recognised the ingenuity of the Pull Pack by awarding it the prestigious award for Best Sales Packaging.

Also, The World Packaging Organisation has announced that it will be awarding Sigpack Systems a WorldStar award in May.
