The UK's Dario Franchitti, driving a 220mph super-car featuring components manufactured by 600 Group company Colchester, has claimed victory on his home track in this year's Rockingham 500 Champ Car race - the fastest motor race in the UK Driving for Team KOOL Green, the 29-year old Scot captured his first cart oval-track triumph on this high-speed, 312.069-mile race in Northamptonshire on Saturday 14 September, 2002

Skill, determination and the benefit of a high specification racing car and dedicated pit crew ensured Franchitti's success as he led the final 39 laps of the 211-lap race to scoop a win ahead of championship leader Cristiano da Matta of Newmann Haas.

Parts on the car were machined using state-of-the-art, high performance turning equipment developed and supplied by Colchester.

Franchitti commented after his Rockingham victory: "The car was awesome." Team Green owner, Barry Green, chose to equip his US race shop with Colchester lathes after being impressed by their performance over two decades ago while he was working as a Formula One mechanic.

The 600 Group's American-based company, Clausing Industrial, supplied Team KOOL Green with the state-of-the-art lathes.

600 Group's Product Strategy and Marketing Director, Stephen LeBeau, comments: "Franchitti's win is testament to the engineering and design of the 220mph super-car and 600 Group is proud to have contributed to that success.

I believe that this is a victory not only for Franchitti but also for British industry - it is a fantastic car with many of the high-precision parts built with British machine tools.

The achievement also reflects the philosophy of 600 Group companies - to lead from the front.".
