UK CNC lathe builder reported that machines on its EMO 2007 stand were sold before the end of the show and orders taken were 45% above EMO 2005.

Marketing director of 600 Group, Stephen Le Beau, enthused: "This was the best EMO we have had We have achieved our goal from the show: making a serious inroad into becoming one of the major suppliers of and laser marking technology in Europe"

He told manufacturingtalk.com: "The overall success of the exhibition - more visitors and all of a high quality - was impressive, but our outstanding results this year undoubtedly lie in the range and breadth of the manufacturing technologies which we are offering.

Whether a customer is seeking fully automated, 6-axis turning, high volume automotive machines, laser marking, workholding or a simple jobbing shop lathe or VMC, we can provide it".

He continued: "600 Group had five stands at this EMO - the largest presence we have ever had - demonstrating both our manufacturing and distribution capabilities.

Every stand reported not only a very high level of enquiries but also a very high quality of enquiries.

Electrox, by example, sold a laser marking system for collection at the end of the show without having had any prior contact with the customer.

We are expecting to do some very good business throughout Europe during the next few months as a result of the show".

The European demand for high specification, high productivity machines was typified on 600 Lathes Colchester Harrison stand by, for instance, the interest in the facility for gear hobbing on the Y-axis Tornado CNC turning centre.

Giving the ability to complete in one set-up work which would traditionally require several machines, the popularity of the machine illustrated the appeal of the Colchester-Harrison range as a whole.

* Enquiry levels doubled - enquiry levels this EMO were more than double those received at the last show, with the German market showing a tremendous interest in the lathes along with the Eastern European markets.

Machines on the stand were sold before the end of the show and orders taken on the stand were 45% above EMO 2005.

Feedback on the machines demonstrated was described to manufacturingtalk.com as "excellent".

The high specification of the machines appealed to customers, whether they were seeking automation and high productivity or the versatility of the Alpha toolroom machines.

* Work holding - the 600 group said that the same demand for higher productivity was also amply demonstrated by the interest in Pratt Burnerd International's stand, where most enquiries were for special workholding systems.

It reflected the company's recognised expertise in designing and manufacturing simple workholding systems for highly complex and difficult applications.

Power chucks were also much in demand, another area in which Pratt Burnerd excels.

Strong demand for the new Crawford Collets Self-Contained Pneumatic Power collet chuck, which enables a mill, lathe or grinder to be converted easily and inexpensively into a production machine, far exceeded the company's expectations and again illustrated the need in Europe for higher productivity at an economic cost.

Enquiries for the popular Crawford Multibore collet were predictably very high.

Gamet Bearings, which was represented on the 600 Lathes Colchester-Harrison stand, told manufacturingtalk.com that it had received substantial enquiries and orders for its super high precision taper roller bearings.

The enquiries reflected the demand for high accuracy, high productivity, high specification in the European market, said Gamet.

* Laser marking - the need for holistic capability was demonstrated in the enormous number of good quality enquiries received by Electrox, one of few fully integrated manufacturers anywhere in the world and the only one manufacturing in the UK.

Electrox was demonstrating its comprehensive range of laser marking technology, including the Electrox proprietary EF Technology, along with its outstanding ability to design and manufacture a laser marking system for virtually any industrial application at EMO.

Electrox said to manufacturingtalk.com that visitors to the stand were clearly impressed by the ability to suit the laser source and the type of workstation to the individual requirement.

600 Group was also in control of two major stands for other manufacturers, Fuji and the Chinese manufacturer DMTG.

600 Group were managing the Fuji stand as a result of the distribution agreement signed for all of Europe and the UK late last year.

This show was the first time Fuji had exhibited at EMO for almost a decade and, under the auspices of 600 Group's management, were "delighted" with the result.

Although not expecting orders on the stand, Fuji reports a large number of very strong leads for both German and East European based automotive customers.

It also attracted some very powerful sub-distributors.

Also being operated in collaboration with another, complementary manufacturer, the DMTG stand aroused widespread interest.

The attraction of Chinese manufactured machines, offered at highly competitive prices, combined with the Group's Four Star Assurance of European inspection, machine specification, spares and service support was amply demonstrated by the high level of interest in the machines (branded Dalian), particularly the VMC range.

The eighth largest manufacturer of machine tools in the world, the 1090m2 stand reflected the company's prominent position in the industry.

Enquiries were received from customers the world over, including the UK and North America, and most of the 23 machines on the stand are being delivered from EMO straight to customers.

Le Beau summarised: "We could not be more pleased.

It is only a year ago that we announced our revised business strategy, aimed at strengthening our position in the mature Western and East European markets.

At EMO we could already see the difference that strategy has made to our business: the manufacturing companies performed even better than in past years and the stands for distributors have been excellent.

We are looking forward to a strong year and to the MACH show, where we anticipate very positive results.".
