Mid-range VMC has high positioning accuracy

A 600 Centre product story
Edited by the Manufacturingtalk editorial team Mar 21, 2006

A high speed, linear way vertical machining centre is Meehanite casting constructed machine has a positioning accuracy of five microns and a repeatability of +0.0025mm.

Making its UK debut on stand 5334 will be the Richmond VMC 1020S high speed, linear way vertical machining centre from 600 Centre of Shepshed near Leicester fitted with the latest Anilam 6000M CNC control.

The new machine range, developed from the previous generation of Richmond vertical machining centres that enjoyed considerable market success due to heavier duty construction and capacity providing 'that little bit extra' against comparable machines and proved to be just what the subcontract and mould making industry wanted.

This same philosophy has been used on the new machine range represented at MACH 2006 by the Richmond 1020S.

Weighing in at five tonnes, this Meehanite casting constructed machine has a positioning accuracy of 5 microns and a repeatability of + 0.0025mm.

The X-axis is 1020mm, the Y-axis 510mm and Z-axis is 560mm while the 11kW, 8,000 rev/min spindle with a ZF gearbox high torque drive, has options of 10,000 or 12,000 rev/min spindle speeds to provide the perfect mid-range subcontract machining centre.

Also, cycle times can be optimised with the rapid traverse rate of 36m/min.

Table size is 1200mm by 500mm with a 1200kg load capability for heavy duty or multiple fixturing and to accommodate the fourth-axis package option.

As standard, the machine carries a 16 position tool magazine, with options of 20 position Geneva, 24 position twin-arm or 32 position chain-type, twin-arm systems.

Maximum tool diameter is 150mm by 300mm long and weighing up to 6kg with BT or CAT 40 taper.

Rigid tapping is standard.

The Anilam 6000M conversational control features the company's integrated CAD/CAM system with on-line post processor and four-axis simulation capability.

This is ideal for die and mould users enabling complex contours and pockets, for instance, to be programmed at the control.
