Spherical roller thrust bearings updated
Spherical roller thrust bearings provide a substantial improvement in key operational parameters relevant to the bearing type and its typical applications.
SKF has announced that its range of spherical roller thrust bearings (SRTBs) is the latest addition to its SKF Explorer class SKF Explorer is a new performance class of rolling element bearings that provide a substantial improvement in key operational parameters relevant to the bearing type and its typical applications

Gearbox design smashes engineering barriers
Considered a breakthrough in the world of industrial transmissions, a gearbox offers a service life of greater than 50,000 hours - 30,000 more than the industry average.
Packaging improvement prevents bearing damage
A versatile, robust and environmentally friendly packaging solution for the transportation of large-size bearings affords easier and safer handling and superior protection.
The SKF Explorer SRTBs now offer increased dynamic load carrying capacity and a service life up to three times longer than that of conventional SRTBs, therefore opening up a new scope of design for customers.
In joining the SKF Explorer range, the SRTBs benefit from added strength to the raceways, high dimensional stability and long life.
An improved surface finish and optimised internal geometry gives better lubrication and load distribution.

Giving angular contact ball bearings longer life
By modifying the geometry of the raceways and changing the manufacturing process, the axial load carrying capacity of angular contact ball bearings has been increased and lifespans extended.
Vital link given in clip chain refurbishment
In the plastics and textile industries, the maintenance of clip chains is a major production uptime consideration, so a specialist refurbishment service has been set up.
Thanks to the increased dynamic load carrying capacity, the SKF Explorer SRTBs enable either downsizing or upgrading the strength and performance of existing assemblies.
New arrangements of identical performance can be designed smaller and more compact, which saves material and improves power density.
A smaller bearing also provides the benefits of having a lower operating temperature, as well as issuing lower noise and vibration levels. The SRTB accommodates a very heavy thrust load in one direction, or heavy combined axial and radial loads.
By design, they are the only roller thrust bearing that can accommodate these radial loads in addition to thrust loads.
Radial loads up to 55 per cent of the simultaneously acting axial load can be accommodated.
This allows one bearing to be used instead of a combination of a radial bearing and another type of thrust bearing.
The spherical roller thrust bearings therefore provide an outstanding and cost saving solution in applications where there are combined loads, by reducing the weight of the bearing arrangement and making it more compact.
SRTBs are also the only thrust bearing that can accommodate very large misalignment and shaft deflections.
Under virtually all operating conditions, SKF SRTBs can accommodate misalignment angles of up to three degrees between the shaft and housing, to give smooth, friction-free adjustment, with lower running temperatures and no adverse effect on bearing life.
SKF SRTBs are frequently used in metalworking, plastic machines, marine equipment, industrial gearboxes, pulp and paper, materials handling, fluid machinery and the mining and construction industries.
Other applications include bridges, cranes, wind and water turbines, hydraulic and electric motors, robots etc.
Smaller sizes of SRTBs are found in a number of demanding applications, such as gearboxes and pumps. Request a free brochure from SKF UK ...
