Evaporative systems cool down moulding factory
Factory workshop temperatures would reach 50degC in the summer when 21 injection moulders were operating, until an evaporative cooling system brought conditions down to 23degC.
When plastics building product manufacturers, FloPlast, moved into a new facility on a 12-acre site in Sittingbourne the company's management were determined to find a way of reducing the excessive heat in the production hall where previously 21 injection-moulding machines had caused sweltering summer temperatures of 50degC.
The solution came with the fitting of a Breezair Evaporative Cooling System, which now enables workers to enjoy a pleasant working environment of just 23degC.
Founded in 1991, Floplast has established itself as a manufacturer of high quality plastics building products for the construction industry, in particular domestic, new building and refurbishments projects.
In 2003, Floplast moved the company's manufacturing to a new 100,000ft2 facility and turned its old production hall into a storage and distribution centre.
FloPlast had tried mobile chiller units in its old production hall to reduce temperatures, but had found them expensive to run and not very efficient.
Looking for a cost effective solution to cooling, FloPlast's Managing Director, Mike Fawley, called in Maidstone based building services consultant engineers, Walker Mower Partnership.
They recommended the Breezair Evaporative Cooling System, which they knew was successful in reducing temperatures in the plastics industry.
"We had read about the success of the Breezair system and wanted to know more", said Mike Walker, Managing Director of Walker Mower Partnership.
"Our investigations into similar applications within the plastic extrusion industry assured us that the Breezair system would work well at FloPlast and this has certainly proved the case".
Following a detailed site survey, Walker Mower specified nine Breezair evaporative coolers installed on the roof of the building.
Each Breezair unit was then ducted to two discharge swirl diffusers to maintain a steady flow of refreshing cool air around the production hall.
"The system is extremely effective and we have experienced no problems at all", said Fawley.
"Our workforce is enjoying a far better working environment which is not only good for morale but also for our production".
Regarded as the most advanced evaporate cooling technology in the world, the environmentally friendly Breezair allows doors and windows to be kept open while providing a constant flow of naturally cooled air.
The system is economic to install, cost effective to run and consumes less energy than conventional air-conditioning systems.
Far more versatile than standard cooling methods, Breezair is capable of providing sufficient cool air to overflow and prevent hot air entering a building.
As fresh air is continually drawn from outside, then filtered and washed, the potential for "sick building" syndrome, caused by constantly circulating air, is avoided.
The Breezair is suitable for both commercial and industrial applications in a spectrum of industries that include agriculture, horticulture, manufacturing, catering and hotels, and public and residential buildings.
Manufactured to the highest standards, the Breezair is backed by Seeley International's 30 years of experience in climate control and the company's commitment to excellence in customer service.
